I grew a jacaranda from seed last year & it "just" survived in my conservatory (low temps never below 52 ) - ended up like a tent pole no leaves at all.
This year it has just grown! It is in the same 9" pot but quite massive ( 4 feet tall ) with two leaders. How can I keep it in leaf and/or healthy over winter? Is it the light levels that are a problem or watering?
Jacaranda
Hmm, I suppose even you take very good care of it, it will drop pretty much leaves on the winter time. And it will grow more when spring and summer comes.
Hi Rosalia. I have both the purple and the white growing outside as trees here in zone 9b. It drops its leaves every winter and comes back out in the spring. I do not know if it just naturally goes dormant or if it is cold induced and in warmer climates it hold on to them. Here it ususally gets down into the 40s in winter.
I never let my conservatory get below 52. I've got bougainvillia & a banana in there as well as palms & other exotics. I'd hate to lose them.
I reckon it could be light. Days are pretty short & dismal here over winter. (I'm on the same latitude as Vancouver & Winnipeg by the way)
