The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Hi ya'll,
I just joined the DG family.
I'm looking forward to learning from all of you. This site is great, it has a ton of topic areas and info.I've been looking at all the pics & old post..really great stuff here.
I am mostly a tropical gardener and I've been gardening for about 15 years.( or "BUYING" plants as my family says.LOL)
I am still filling out my trades list and hope to trade some plants.I also have a ton of critters to go with the garden.I have a small tropical garden(jungle) on a residential lot and enclosed goldfish pond and patio room that was our summer project. That's a lil about me.I hope to share plants & info with some of you.
Blessings to all,

Welcome to Daves and the Tropicals forum. Hope to see you around here a lot. I love tropicals, but I have to be careful what I get because of overwintering problems. No greenhouse, just a jungle in our home. I'm wondering what it is going to be like living with lots of bananas and ears this winter. Betting that the windows won't be very visible.

Hiya Brugie,
Thanks so much for the warm welcome.
I am really loving this site.I am still filling out my plant list and learning all the features etc.
I live where I don't have to bring in much, but I do anyway cuz I can't stand not enjoying the plants in the winter. Our winters aren't too cold but the are wet & cloudy!
I became a tropical gardener mostly because it was easy here. I'd love to grow some tulips & other colder weather plants but even our fridges don't get cold here.LOL
More later..
Blessings

Welcome MsCritterKeeper. I'm in a swing zone,7/8 in NE Texas. Alot of tropical things will do fine here if heavily mulched and we usually get just enough cold weather to grow the great early spring bulbs. The down side, my water bill was $170.00 this month. Plan on having a well drilled just for the yard by next summer. By the way, what kind of critters do you keep?

Hiya catlady & Calalily.
Thanks for the welcome.
catlady you seem to have the best of both worlds!
Calalily your name is one of my favorite flowers I can grow!
I can grow almost anything here...if it likes it wet,hot & humid! Or if it can take wet and ocassionaly cold weather.
Everything here does seem to grow bigger..yep includin the BUGS!LOL
I keep a variety of critters.Mostly Tropical birds, about 100 of 'em actually. I am owned by 3 Chi pups, an old bobtail cat & one very wonderful husband that supports us all.
