A few of our cannas early September, sw PA.
This time of year as it cools here, they are just wonderful.
But frost will take them in a few weeks )o;
Cannas
Beautiful! My garden of cannas look like that also. Thanks for sharing.
Alice,That is a great shot!
WOW!!!
Your cannas are beautiful!!
Awesome! And I really lust after your glasshouse. LOL
You always have the very nicest looking canna among other things! Your greenhouse is to die for!
Beautiful cannas Alice. Mine are not looking very good right now. You would be ashamed of me. I just haven't had time to cut the old flower stalks off. I must either do that or just ignore and try harder next year.
Shirley I never cut mine off. I always forget a 'tool'. LOL I have gotten to wear I just give them a quick snap when I notice seeds forming. :) It is a bit of effort. LOL
I live for the day mine will look like that. Love the GH too.
Gorgeous cannas and yes, the lovely new house is impressive for sure.
I have decided that cannas don't belong in GA!! They bloom way too early and the bugs get em, I know, if I could remember to spray them early enough they probably would do much better for me, I really admire people that have pretty beds of them. I have already chopped most of mine.
The season is about over here also so yours are a real treat to see. So beautiful. Hard to imagine snow will be covering them in a couple of months.
Very pretty cannas. I LOVE your glasshouse.
Wow.. very pretty! My cannas doesnt look good right now due bugs!!!!!!How can you make them grow tall? Feed them with fertilzer? I like the pink ones!
WOW! What a beautiful display you have there. I love canna and have several cultivars but ours don't compare with yours.
To grow cannas well, select a sunny location.
Make sure the soil is well amended and loose before planting. I stay as organic as possible.
If in a cold area (like me), don't put cannas inground too soon to be affected by up and down temps.
I fertilize once as they start growing and again mid summer.
Once growing they like daily soakings when hot and dry. Water is very important.
They like an underplanting or good mulch to help with moisture, also.
Japanese Beetles are my main problem. I use milky spore, traps, and hand pick ..but still have to spray sometimes.
But alot of JBs have met their fate here. lol
Photo is only a small portion of the cannas. This bed runs the length of the glasshouse and beyond.
What started out as a 1 canna for me (Black Knight) over a decade ago (just bcause I liked it!) and Russian Red for Dave
is now to hundreds of varieties. And still growing!
The 'new' greenhouse is really an old glasshouse dating to the 1890's.
Reconstruction finally about completed . (((o:
Thanks for all the nice things said (o:
Wow! What spectacular flowers! So tall! I've never been much of a canna person, but this picture just might sway me. And how neat to have such a wonderful glasshouse. Thanks for posting these.

Love your cannas! What's the red canna called on the far left of the picture? I lost most of my cannas last year due to an extremely cold winter. They were freebees my mom sent me about 4 years ago when she cleaned out her gardens. She's in WI and didn't dig the bulbs in time one year and lost all of her cannas so I can't get more from her. I need to replace mine next spring.
