The red bed

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

This picture was taken in July, it's now jammed. Bananas, cannas, Bishop of Llandaff, Hilo Beauty. Everything except the Musa basjoo banana and the cannas has to be dug up for storage.
Feel free to tell me to stop anytime.

What are those red flowers on the right? Are you a seed saver?

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

That's a dahlia with burgundy almost black foliage called Bishop of Llandaff. I'm not a fan of red blooms but had to build the entire bed for it. It's the only dahlia I have.

Here it is taken from one of the middle decks.

Are you sure you live in Canada? I think you are just
pulling our leg!! Beautiful Liz-don't stop them coming!
The rest of us that live in the Great White North will
be looking back at these with envy and a good case of
cabin fever in a few months!

Looks like a tropical paradise. How do you do it? I'd be exhausted because I know that is just a small part of your flowers.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Brugie, I don't hold a candle to your tropical bed ~ 60 feet long. Show us the picture. I can't even imagine how you're going to dig it all up. You even have to take up the cannas.

Liz Those shots are absolutely beautiful. Do have time for anything other than gardening. How big a storage area do you actually have? Please post more.

Liz the song "She works hard for her money" comes to
mind when I look at that slope-or when I think of all
that Brugie has to bring in.

Liz, mine is so long that I can't get a picture of the whole thing. It is kind of U shaped so the ends are hard to catch too. Then I have three rows of brugs in the main garden that are about 50 ft. long. Think I should get started? I hate to mess up the brugs yet because most of them will bloom in about three weeks for the first time. Almost all are seedlings or late cuttings. This is a stretch that is about 1/4 of the main bed, maybe a little less. I'll even add a picture that was taken early from a distance so you can see most of what I was working with.

This is what I started with this spring. Gosh, I didn't realize how much stuff I planted...........What you see here was just the beginning. I've got so much stuff that became hidden in that jungle that I'm sure it is just spindly little plants by now, but I can't get in there to do anything about it. I'm not organized when I plant....just stick it here or there if it looks like it might fit....I kinda messed up this year. LOL!!

brugie
What is that daisy like flower centre right that looks like it has a little rubber tire in the centre?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

That is called a metal garden ornament!! Sorry, can't get any seeds from that one.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

LOL, she's got an amazing garden doesn't she? You should ask her to list what is in that bed. Plants she can't even see anymore it's so packed.
Brugie, I think you better book Rootdoctor for a few days. He did finish off your gh last year and help plant some of your beds? What a great guy!

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

gives a whole new meaning to mass planting - its like the tropics. too bad the ornaments don't set seed - I'm sure there would be a market - that one is cute

Thanks for the pics. Brugie...it's nice to see the
scenery shots. You have such a beautiful display
and no POTS! Gotta try that one of these days!
And you have gingers...I'm gonna gets me a ginger,
one way or another!!

Burlington, ON(Zone 6a)

These are drop dead gorgeous pics!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

You don't have gingers lilypon? You have the heat, you need gingers.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Lots of pots here. That picture was taken before I move stuff around that was in pots. Now there are about 8 pots lined up in front of that bed and I grow a lot of brugs in pots too. Takes me about an hour and a half to water everything. Speaking of which........I'm going to check the brug forum and then I'm off to water. Maybe that will make it rain.
