I guess you can tell that I'm having my annual gh panic attack over space. This is Ensete ventricosum maurellii, Abysinian banana.
Banana
I've heard of this one, but never had seen a picture. Gorgeous!!
WoW!! Love the color!
edited to ask "How many greenhouses do you have?????"
"How big are they?????????" Are they bigger than your
house?
ditto!
I only have one so-called greenhouse, it's a space of 20x20ft with a 9 foot ceiling. It is attached to one of the lower floors ~ was (lol)the waterski room. The seeds are started in a small room down there under lights and the cuttings begin to root in there. Once rooted they move to the gh which is kept around 50F. That's where all the smaller brugs (anything in a 1-2 gallon pot) go. Also all the non-hardy things like the bananas etc. The big plants that are destined for dormancy go into the rest of the waterski room (50 x 20ft)stacked one on top of each other. They also get stacked in the boathouse which is heated and dry. I don't keep any plants in the house except for tropical hibiscus and they are on a cool enclosed deck. I'm awful with house plants, they get ignored and die.
Too much info?
Never too much info. Thanks
Not for me either!
I should say that the cool gh also gets any brugs that still have seed pods forming. Sorry, I wasn't really going to mention brugs.
Off to find something else that needs to come in.
I've seen this major operation! E. What a feat!
LOL, Elaine. I'll remember to turn off the big lights when you come over. Maybe scented candles? In my little gh I have 2 hard-wired 1000 watt high pressure sodium bulbs. Has anyone seen the movie 'Saving Grace'? Big lights.
Are you already bring in the trops, Liz. By the way, my daughter did not say NO to a greenhouse at her place, which, although 15 min away is nearly flat SW exposure, sunny lot. There may be hope for us yet with the company truck and hydraulic lift!
The only things that I have brought in are the Amazonicas, longiloba, sanderiana, that kind of thing that doesn't like cool at all. The tropical hibiscuses are still out will be some of the next things to come in as soon as then temps come down to around 60F. I'm lazy so I do this in stages. lol
I'm not even started yet. Oh my, I think I better get it in gear. You are way ahead of me and I get the coldest.
I've been out there, doing the bringing-in-thing! Thankgoodness for the cart! Every year stuff gets heavier! You have to do this moving in stages, or you won't be walking upright! I slid off the patio the other day, and ouch!!!! my groin muscle, or groan muscle, as my hubby calls it....that set me back a few days! little steps, baby steps, right Dawn and Liz???? E.
Yes, Roselaine I hear you. And next month it will start to rain. I love September and October, it's sunny and dry. You can take your time bringing plants in. But when it begins to continuosly rain, plants get tossed in the gh and it takes all winter to sort them out.
Dawn, I wish you would post a picture of your glass wall stairway. It would give everyone an idea of our not-flat growing area. Plus it looks like something out of Architectural Digest.
