Blackberry lily seeds (Bela m canda)

Cassopolis, MI(Zone 5a)

I just purchased a yellow blackberry lily that is loaded with seed pods. They are not ripe yet, but I will not possibly have enough room for all of them. I am unsure what the seeds should look like when they are ripe. Does anyone know if they will be shiny and black like regular daylillies. I should have enough for at least 10 packets of 10. I am very new to seed saving and have been successful with some things and dismal failure at others, but I sure do find it exciting when I can grow something from seed that I collected. I also purchased an aster that is in bloom and I am trying to figure out where the seeds will be when they form. It is an (aster novae-anglia) It has really incredible color lipstick pink flowers and is considerably taller than my other asters. Any info would be appreciated.
Also if would like seeds from the blackberry lily I will try to fill the first 10 requests as they ripen.

I would love to have some seeds but I sure can't tell you how to harvest them. Sorry. Me, being so new to all this seed harvesting and planting, I just hope that the seeds I have received do as well for me as they have to their senders.Just e-mail me when you get ready to harvest.Did you know that there is going to be a harvest moon tonight? Something beautiful to see.

Jan,
What is a harvest moon?

Ran out of package tape but am going to town today and
then should get your paperwhites on the way. They are
in the box and ready to go; just need more tape. Will
email you after the PO today and let you know the cost of shipping.

Could I have some seeds? Would you like something in trade or a SASE? I have purple coneflower, bachelor buttons, and daisys so far.

Are the seedpods still green? When the seeds are ready, the pods are dry and beige and breaking open to reveal what looks like a blackberry (hence the name).

The seedpods are still green and so are the seeds so I was sure they were not yet ripe. Thanks so much for you help.
I will send to both Ruth Tombstonejan as soon as I am sure they are ripened properly. I will contact before I send them out so you will know they are on there way, an SASE when they are ready would be appreciated. Please don't send until you hear from me though just in case something happens to them.

Brenda's right, the seeds will be black and round (like a daylily) and will be in a cluster like a blackberry. At that point they are ready to be harvested before they drop off, although many times they will hang on and provide winter interest against the snow!

Would like some seeds What are you wanting in return??

Cassopolis, MI(Zone 5a)

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that Ihave been looking for a yellow coneflower, but I am not even sure whether they are hard to come by or not. I have not seen any around here, but I don't get out a lot either. Would be glad to send you some for an SASE when they are ready, but it sounds like it will be awhile. I will contact you when they have ripened.

Okay I think these are finally getting close, I do hope you didn't think I had forgotten any of you, I have been checking these daily and I think the first few are finally mature, I wish that someone who knows would tell me for sure. I put some plastic around the bottom of the plant just in case any fall out because I didn't want to loose them.

Those black ones showing in the split pod are ripe! The others should be ripe soon.

(Zone 5b)

Alice, When the pods open, you'll recognize the seeds. The plants database has some great pictures for you.

Thanks ladies, I had just checked out the database and was kicking myself for posting above without looking there first. I also read that you should take the fleshy part off before storing, is there any trick to this that I should know or is it just a peel off thing.
Thanks Alice

Hi there I hope you didn't think I had forgotten any of you!!
I have been gathering these for a little over a week now and everyday get a few more.
It will not be very long before I am able to mail them out to you, but I want to be sure I have enough for everyone so have been holding on to them to see how many I could send to each.
Please do not worry about SASE I have been treated so kindly by everyone at DG's that I wish to do this as a small return present.
Thanks for your patience.

Hi Alice, Just received them today and I just wanted to say that it's quality and not quantity that counts. Thanks so much for the seeds. I hope that winter doesn't last too long in your parts. I know what it's like to be shut in when things get bad but just remember we are all here pulling for you. Gos bless you
Jan
