There is something other-worldly about these blooms, each one is just like the last, but somehow transports me to another place.
An Ethereal Experience
Beautiful pictures.
Is photography just a hobby for you? You are so good at it.

Beautiful pictures!
Great pictures. Love that color.
Why thank you Liz, what a very nice compliment....yes it is just a hobby, perhaps an obsession. I collect vintage dinnerware and have a website devoted to info on it. Five years experience taking pictures of pottery makes flowers a snap! Great light, no hard surface glares or hot spots...but also remember that I only show you the "good" ones. :-) (Big trash can after a session with the camera. And it helps to have a great camera as a trusted friend too.)
Not only great pictures, but great subjects! Since you mentioned it, what is your camera?
Again thanks to all for your nice comments.....I will take credit for providing the subject matter, but my camera should take the applause.
It is a Nikon CoolPix 995, straight from the box, no filters, special lenses, set on automatic....can you say point and shoot? It does have lots of bells and whistles and manual settings, but I have yet to explore them since it does such a great job without my input.
Thank you for the camera info. That brand was one I looked at when I recently researched them. I'd say you do just fine without bells and whistles.
You sure got some good pics. Do you have a name on that brug? Very nice one.
We, too have a Nikon #995, that is what it cost also, when we bought it, when it first came out. Love it.!

Is your vintage dinnerware website listed on your homepage? I'd love to see it.

I love Fiesta. Are all those pictures of the kitchen yours? Outstanding collections!
The kitchen and the dishes in the article are mine, the photos in the article were done by a NY crew headed by Dan Mayers for Country Collectibles magazine. The other photos on the website are mine done with a CoolPix 950 and then later ones with the 995.
I'm in awe. How long have you been collecting?
Sorry, and to stay on topic, it's a beautiful brug picture.
I just love your kitchen! I collect bakelite. All the primary colors would go well with your Fiesta! Is it true you are not supposed to eat from vintage Fiesta because of the lead?
Your kitchen design is incredible!
Evening ladies -
Nothing I like better than talking dishes and flowers! I've been collecting about 15 years and use Reissue Fiesta (1986- )as my everyday dinnerware. (Kell - I also collect bakelite flatware that I use with my vintage dishes.)The vintage stuff is used on special occasions. Sorry to have dragged us off-topic, but I bet I can find a piece of pottery with some flowers in it. :-)
The old wives-tale about vintage Fiesta and lead/radioactivity is just that.....lots of dinnerware currently on the market and in your home most likely contains lead or other heavy metals in the glaze/decal/paint.

What a pretty bouquet. So are all those vases vintage? How old? Looks like they have no crazing of the glaze.
Those are Reissue tool crocks, make great vases and/or flower pots. This is sturdy stuff and will rarely ever craze. Even vintage Fiesta is not craze prone as are some other lines of vintage ware. Let's see if I can find a way to keep this still on a garden theme.....
This image is a vintage 10" vase with some of my epis, same style is available in two sizes in Reissue Fiesta.
Happenstance, when I was researching CoolPix cameras, I read they do not take the night shots well. Do you find this? I love taking pics at night. Also how close can you get to a subject? Poppysue's Cool Pix I think you can take a pic an inch away. The Canon I was looking at takes great night shots but the macro is 4 inches away. I want a better close up.
Chele, have you settled on a camera?
I am driving my self nuts trying to pick one!
Closeups......to get a good closeup shot you don't really have to be close.
For the attached image of the seedhead of a String of Bananas which is about 3/8" in diameter I was probably 12-15" away. The trick is resolution and focus, cropping the image to size using only the part of the raw data you need.

LOL. Your music woke up my DH! Actually I like the shots that are like your seedhead, with a black background. Then you can have a mess and no one sees!!! LOL So does your camera do those easily?
You different websites are very impressive! I am thinnking about starting one for my self. Of course it will take me a few years to go from thinking to acting!
I was doing more reseach just now and see Nikon doesn't make your camera anymore but they have the Coolpix 4500 that seems to be the follow up to yours. I was even thinking of going to the 5000, but it maybe too advanced for me as I just point and click right now.
I see I can get a $200 rebate back if I buy one soon so I guess I better decide!
See this pic, I like to go out late at night and enjoy the darkness, solitude and fragrance of the night as i take pics.
A note for other night-owls like you and me.....ALWAYS turn you volume to super low or significant others can rise up in rebellion. :-)
RE: the closeups of the seedhead....if you look closely you can see the sunlight shining on the attached dry stem. This was taken in my greenhouse about mid-day. When you are framing an image for a closeup the background is really pretty unimportant and will receed to practically nothing so as not to detract from your subject.
Like anything else it takes a little practice, but it only takes one good one for instant gratification.
The 995 has lots of bells and whistles and manual settings....I've never used them.
Your picture is lovely! Given the right time of day, location, lighting, etc. you can acomplish this at other times of the day too, but I agree there is something other worldly about taking pictures at night. One thing is that it really is point and shoot.....point the camera and go for it cause I sure can't see anything in the pitch black.
That's a wrap for tonight, I'm whipped!
Happenstance:
Your flowers are beautiful and your kitchen and collection are incredible! Your kitchen is so warm and welcoming. I'm sure that everyone who visits you heads straight to your kitchen! :-)
Happenstance, all I can say, is I wanna be you when I grow up! LOL You seem to have the best of everything! I drooled on your pond, your landscaping, your zone, your brugs, your plants, your hummers and now you stick that kitchen and all those gorgeous dishes in my face??? I am wowed in the most serious way! I guess I will never look at my gifted Corelle the same way. :) I'll get real dishes when my six kids grow up and move out. giggle Oh, and you can talk about whatever you want on your own thread. When it is other people's threads you have to behave. LOL
Yes, Kell I did decide. All my shopping stuff is in the camera talk forum. I went with the Olympus 750. I have not tried a night picture though. I don't have any brug blooms now either. Sigh. Maybe my datura will oblige. :)
Oh Chele, take one of anything so I can see the quality! LOL. Is it one you have to read the manual before you use? I hate doing that. lol
I am leaning towards the Nikon Coolpix for I always love Poppysue's pics and Happenstance sure has nice clear ones. The only trouble is I need to get their best one to get the zoom I want but if it is hard to use I am in BIG trouble. Meaning if it has more than 1 button to push to get the picture. LOL.
Happenstance, I have been admiring your incredible photos since I discovered Dave's & brugs. And now I see that you have an amazing collection of Fiesta! Wow!!! I've been collecting bakelite & other weird stuff for years... and now brugs have become my newest obsession. Thanks for all your wonderful photos!!!!
I have to comment on your gorgeous kitchen ceiling fixture. It is perfect for the room.
It is so good to see you out and about here Liz! Did you see any of my recent threads? I miss your sassy comments!
I seem to only get a short time these days on the computer Kell. I'll get caught up on all the threads soon. Don't be surprised when I start to revive your postings months after you put them up. lol
That really is a gorgeous Fiesta site isn't it? Happenstance, are you the American authority on Fiesta? The go-to person?
Badseed -
I waited 'til my kids grew up.....in 1988 with my second in college and my first married, that's when I took on the dish thing. My grandmother had Fiesta and when she passed away I got a single Cobalt Mug. That's where it started.
The article I wrote for Country Collectibles is actually an account of the fond memories I have of visiting her in western Kansas and how I designed my Fiesta kitchen based on those memories. BTW my kids don't like my dishes. :-)
back2back - I'm also very new to Dave's as of August 22 or so, welcome from one newbie to another! I also collect some very weird stuff according to my family.
Liz - The ceiling fixtures (there are two, but if I recall only one shows in the mag) came from a reproduction lighting company in LA.....I bought them before I picked the cabinets or appliances, cause....well I just had to!
Am I an authority.....well I guess, I have a large well known collection, a website that has been in place for close to 5 years, have had a succession of message boards all of which I have eliminated because of the time demands for monitoring and maintaining them. The website was updated daily for several years, but about 18 months ago I left it in place as it is. How much can you say about the same dishes, over and over and over. Even a fanatic runs out of things to say.
(Kudos to Dave and his team, this is a wonderful endeavor and the best managed I've found on any subject.)
Hope I didn't miss anyone, again thanks for all the nice compliments, I appreciate it and don't know how we got so far away from brugs!
Beautiful pics and dishware. Both are very cheerful.
Very talented, very versitile.
I fell in love with Fiesta about 10 years ago. I just love the saturated colors. Unfortunately, it was never easy to find here.
