I recently bought an external hard drive for backing up all my documents and pictures. I got an 80 GB drive with the idea that I could use it for two computers.

I ran into a problem after backing up the files on our Windows XP system. Our second computer uses Windows 2000 which I discovered is not compatible with XP.

I am thinking that if I would update the 2000 computer to XP, I could then use my external drive for both systems.

I looked at XP upgrades ($100), and the sales people tell me that it will upgrade Windows 2000 even though the box does not list it. Another sales person said that it would not work if 2000 is not specifically listed on the box.

Anyone have a similar experience?
