Are they done?

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Well here is my first lotus seed pod. One seed didn't mature. Does it look like these are done? I'm not sure because the stem is still green. If it's not done, I'll put something over the seed head.

I don't know if it's done but it's sure a neat seed pod.

Morning Peggy! I am playing with my camera and now the tripod. LOL Craig said it looks like a shower head.

I have lotus seeds but did not know if i could plant them with success..i collected about 5 pods... can i grow something from them?

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Hi Tracy,
Yes, you can definately grow something from them, more lotus!! You have to file or sand a small hole in one side of the seed and put them in water. I change the water several tiems a day. Within a few days a small nub will poke out then turn into a root. After that they can be grown in wet soil and water, then planted out next spring. If you do a search you can find more detailed info. These are just the basics. What color/type do you have? My pink croaked and I just collected my first seeds of lutea/yellow. I have another pod ripening.

This has me thinking. I have something that looks just like that seed pod, but it was bought in the silk flower dept of a craft store. Its brown in color and the seeds rattle when ya shake it.......now would this be the same thing?? Is it possible to grow anything from this??
Wanting to know more!

Chances are that is what you have. They are very popular for dried arrangements. As for being viable, don't know unless you try. LOL

I think I will give it a try, it wouldn't hurt don't guess. The stem broke off of it anyway so it is just the top seed head and no way to use it in the arrangment.
Should I follow the same instructions above here to get them to sprout?
Keeping my fingers crossed X

MB, the ones you buy in the store are the real thing. They sometimes spray paint them gold, silver, etc. I would think the seeds would still be viable. Let us know if you get anything!

O I will, I am pretty excited to see if I can get them to sprout out too!
Wish me luck!!
