Red Stripe Canna (canna indicus)
Cleopatra? http://plantsdatabase.com/go/37250/ they have a great deal of variety on each plant. Some yellow with red dots, others pure yellow with red stripe and a great deal of variety between. Also dark stripes on the leaves in a vary random pattern.
Red King Humbert is a tall (6') with primarily red with yellow accent flowers. http://www.cannas.net/prodpages/tall/redkinghumb.htm
This photo is backlit, so the color is lighter than what you sent. Another candidate is tropicana, which has more red in the leaves (and is also more expensive)
You can also browse google http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=canna+foliage&sa=N&tab=wi
Ohhhhhhh! that Red King is on my list already,I need a lot of tall plants.Have plenty of short and med height.
I did find the Red Stripe from a nursery in the UK ,but they want a large order that would really eat into my next years garden budget...
Hmmm*** Dear Santa,I've been a very good....***

My Picasso canna apparently rotted. We had rain every day from June-August and not much better this month so far.
Is it worth it to mess with seeds?..shirley
I can't find the post, but I definitely remember someone posting the flowers on the canna they grew from seed. They were amazed that it bloomed the FIRST YEAR. This is the closest I could find about seed growth
http://davesgarden.com/t/396691/canna and on 4/30 Aoltearoa posted:
"What I HAVE actually done is start 12 Cannas in a mix of 1/3 vermicompost, 1/3 soiless potting mix, 1/3 sand, given them lots of HID light and water. Potted March 30, they're all over 18 inches and ready to be planted out any day now.
Beginner's luck, eh?"
Also check out the trades.
Many thanks for your guidance. The last link ...17.50 for one.
I'm going to get some seeds...more stuff to fuss over during the dark months ahead ;-).

..as far as trades go ,I do not have anything to trade yet.
I believe Dave had an entry in his journal about canna from seed last year sometime. Talked about knicking the seeds and other helpful info.
http://davesgarden.com/j/viewentry/4193/ He made it look pretty easy.

Interesting link!
I have a young canna, color ordinary red.
This week I noticed what I think is a seed. Very dark in color and oval shape.
I would appreciate any answers.
Sandy

The ripe seeds are round or slightly oval in shape and are rock hard. Not all types of canna set seed. Best results seem to come when you knick the hard coating with a file and soak the seed for 24 to 48 hours befor planting.
