Howdy Folks,
Ya'll mind if we talk about modems for a bit? This past Sunday mine got zapped (or something happened to it). We had a storm but there was not power outtage, lightning zapping in the nearby area, etc. However, all of a sudden I was off-line. I've heard that lightning can enter your puter thru the phone line so perhaps that is what happened.
I went to Best Buy the next day, bought a new modem, put it in and could connect, but barely (dial-up, connecting at 14- 19 bps). Plus, when I had more than one window loading it would either disconnect or take eternity to load.
I ended up having my guru come by, he put in another modem and I was connecting good again. And now, my question!...
...Is a "high dollar" modem any more efficient than a "standard-priced" modem? Will a high dollar modem connect you faster? Give you more speed? Is one modem a better deal than another?
As you can see, I'm planning for the future!
