Tapioca Tree (Manihot) Variegated???

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

I've seen pics of this tropical looking tree and really love it. Is anyone growing them? Or maybe know how to get seeds for it? Thanks in advance!

Eclipse,

Thanks so much for the response. We have plenty of heat here in Oklahoma. The humidity is high sometimes, but not like the eastern states. I know it sets seeds, is it something that I can treat as an annual? Or could I overwinter it in the basement? Did you have the variegated variety?

Brinda..the plants I ttalked about WERE the variegated ones.Very hard to keep alive outside of the tropics.Overwintering in a basement will kill them quickly. We had a hard time keeping it going in a greenhouse at work.

Well DARN!!! I think that these are so beautiful. I have seeds for the solid green Manihot. But I just love the variegated and wanted to try them. I have a friend in East Texas that grows them (the solid green) without a problem. Hopefully they will do OK here in Oklahoma. Thank you for your input. I guess it will save me a lot of time and work. Thanks again!!!

Strange thing....we just this week in our newspaper had a write up on this plant. They do good down here is South La., get lots of heat, rain & high humidity! Will grow 4 to 5 ft.,shrub form, foliage resembles cannabis,, full to half day sun, offered in nursery in June, can propagate but take cuttings by Oct., takes heat to develop roots, grow in greenhouse, TOXIC--contain cyanide....this is why animals do not eat the plant. Cooking the tuber and young leaves renders them safe to eat ...used to make glue and tapioca pudding. ===IF ANYONE HAS THIS PLANT, I WOULD LIKE TO TRADE DAYLILIES OR GINGERS FOR SOME CUTTINGS.===THANKS
