The place to BEE

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Two incredible occurrences today. Number one honeybees!!!! I counted five of them on this flower, I haven't seen them in years. The other is a blue sky. Haven't seen that in almost two weeks.

Okay- why isn't anyone impressed by my honeybees? LOL.... I'm more thrilled by the bees then by the flower. Poor honeybees have had a rough go the last couple of years.

Edit* at least I'm consistent with my spelling mistakes *

Kristi, it's great that your bees are back! We had one year a while back with not many honeybees but they seem to be making a comeback here too.
I think everyone was so impressed with the flower, they forgot about the bees!

The funny part is I posted this because of the honeybees (thanks for the correct spelling)not for the flower, LOL....

Out here people are buying bees for their own needs. They put up the hives and order the bees then they have their own pollinators for the fruit trees and garden veggies. You can always find someone to take the honey from the hives. Wish we had done it this year, but I completely forgot. Another way to get bees in the spring and maybe any other time of the year, is to spray your fruit trees or veggies with "Bee Scent". Boy, in a half hour you will have tons of them. Has to be over 60 degrees though.

Kristi, I am impressed about your honey bees because I did not realize that everyone does not have them by the hundreds like we do. I can just imagine what it would be like to see them the first time in years and also your brug is beautiful.

city?? lol sticks, AR(Zone 7a)

the easiest way to attract bees is to were flip flops-----and walk thru the clover,---

Datdog, Your brug is gorgeous. Why don't you have any honey bees. Out here a lot of beekeepers have lost their bees to bee mites. I have quite a lot of native bees and they do a pretty good job of pollenizing. Also this spring I bought 2 straws of Mason bees, but don't know how successful that was. My oldest son is an entomologist and works with USDA in Baton Rouge, they are trying to find some Russian bees that are resistant to bee mites, but he says they have not been very successful. Donna

Gee, bee mites? Mites sure are all over. And Brugie, spray bee scent? Can you imagine if you wore that in the garden? LOL

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Kell, I don't think you would want to use it as perfume, but I really does draw bees.

The mites got into bees around here too as well as some kind of moth that ruins the hives.
Kell, I don't think I want to wear eau de bee scent in the garden! I remember seeing a TV show(I think it was Believe it or Not) where a gal had a bikini made of live bees.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I can see me now! LOL. OUCH!
