Pit Bulls As pets?

My Grandkids just got a 4 month old pit bull. His name is Lucky and so far he is a really sweet dog and minds well. I have to be honest, I am somewhat worried about him though. Pit Bulls have such a bad reputation and I have no experience with them. My DGK are 5 and 11 and there is a new baby on the way. Have any of you ever had Pit Bulls? What do you think?
