I've seen some pretty unique pet names up here on DG, which leads me to my question: How did you name your pet?
I have three cats and a dog. Our first cat was named Frosty. She is a silver grey with white paws and a white nose who wandered her way into our lives on a *very* cold February day (we're talking below 32 degrees in FLORIDA). My DH felt sorry for her being outside in the cold and brought her in to give her warm milk and some Tuna Helper. She gobbled it all down. Next thing you know, we have ourselves our very first pet, and our second pet.
Though we didn't know it at the time we adopted her, Frosty was pregnant. She had 4 healthy kittens, 3 males and 1 female, which we SWORE we weren't keeping, and we were NOT naming so we wouldn't get attached. Next thing you know we had Lady (who was always so prim and proper, crossed her paws when she laid down and everything), Vociferous (who always had something to say about everything), Tiger (who would always lead the charge and start all the tussles with the other kittens), and Wrong Way. We kept Wrong Way as he was sooooo shy and only ever let one person (besides my DH and I) handle or touch him when folks were looking at the kittens to adopt them. Wrong Way got his name because from the moment he was born, he has always gone the opposite direction of what he should. My DH (Jamie) helped puppies in his earlier years and, with his "midwiving" experience, he was helping Frosty give birth to her kittens. Wrong Way was the runt of the litter and the second kitten to be born. Jamie helped clean him up and dry him off a little and then put him by Frosty's teat to nurse. Wrong Way, in accordance with his name, headed towards Frosty's cheek and tried to nurse on it. Jamie picked him up and moved him back to a teat to nurse, so Wrong Way promptly crawled to Frosty's back legs and was nosing around there looking to nurse. We kept telling him, "No! That's the wrong way!" Even now, when we want him to head one direction, he does a turnabout and heads the opposite way. And so Wrong Way was named...
Oreo was named because of her coloration/markings. She's black and white with a white nose, white front paws, and a white tummy so she reminded me of an Oreo cookie, one of my favorite cookies :)
Shadow, our dog got her name because when we first brought her home she was always right on our heels wherever we went, just like a shadow. She insisted on being right there so she didn't miss any of the "pack" action. She's also mostly black so the name fit in two ways.
So how did your pets get named???
