Hello my brug friends.
I tried to do a search, but...it takes so long to sift thru everything, and you know now that I am paying by the minute, I was getting frustrated, cause I would get sidetracked etc., I still coulnt find out what to do for my spider mite infestation, and it seems that I knew at one time what to do....It must be a senior moment that I cant remember.
Also, please Keep in mind that I have no access to american brands, actually any brands for that matter....but I am hoping you can say oh yeah, an alcohol water solution or something similiar. Otherwise, I am ready to chuck my two brugs that I brought all the way from the States and start some from seeds for next year, cause I know I'm not going to have any blooms this year.....
Any help would be appreciated.
Help with spider mite infestation
Strip all of the leaves and then spray the plant with any pest control available where you are. New leaves will emerge and the plants will be ok. Be sure to toss the leaves and do not compost them.
pebs!!!!!!!! miss you so much.
give them a few good sprayings with water. The hardest stream you can get without hurting the brugs. I even used soap water once and that didn't work too bad but not sure on that one. It sure is hard when you're in a different country and don't have stuff that you're used to around. spider mites like it dry, so the more moisture, the better to get rid of them, I think ;)
and yes, we do miss you
Murphy's Oil Soap in the water could help too. It would smother the mites and eggs but wouldn't cure the problem. Soak the whole plant, soil and all in 115 degree water for 15 minutes. Monika says that will take care of any mites and it is safe for your brugs.
Alcohol and water 1:1 with a squirt of non antibacterial dish soap. Remember to break their life cycle(eggs, nymphs and adults) you need to spray every three days for 21 days.
AAAHHHH Cala, I knew there was an alcohol solution....Thank you!
I dont have a hose, my plants are on the balcony and I water with a pitcher, no murphy's oil either.
I miss you all, and miss reading all the posts, hope everyone is doing well.
School is going to start there in a day or so, hope everyone with kids is ready. Cala, is your daughter excited about the new school? Michelle starts on the 15th, she wasnt too happy with the uniform, but I think it will be the least of her problems once she goes and realizes that the language barrier will be a nightmare for her.
Everyone have a happy Labor Day!
Tig, how have you been? any news on the book?
thanks for the advice on the mites everyone.
Bonnie, BOOK??
no, she's talking about monika's:) the one mailed here got lost. Pebble, I believe monika is mailing from there, she'll need your new addy.
I've never had spider mites on the few brugs that I've grown in the past, but I noticed yesterday that several of the small plants that I've just recently obtained seem to have them. I sure don't want to lose them. Helppppp!
so far, knock on wood, this is the one thing I haven't had to fight yet. If I see them, I'm going to use the alcohol mix above.
Bonnie, I guess I just thought, well, she does everything else (do you ever sleep).
Hi Pebble! Hope you're able to get those mites under control. I know what a nightmare they can be.
Hư everyone, It looks like my brugs are sorry pathetic looking things right now, I will treat them and hope for the best and if not just start with seed for next year.
Thanks Bonnie for letting me know.
Poppysue, I saw some of your brug pictures, you are doing well with them.
