Susan, do you have a botanical name? There are several very different plants called by this name.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

I don't have a clue but someone knew what I was talking about and emailed me so I'm gonna get some :)

I think they are Proboscidea Louisianica.

Oh! There are different variety's. Wow,i
didn't know that. There is also the one
i mentioned above. I probably have the
one i mentioned,as the seeds came from
Southwest.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

not sure which one I'm getting, I know there's one with a black head and one with a white head. I want to grow them to use in crafts

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Bitty, yours is the same one that grows around here. But I have heard people talk about the other one and even different ones besides these two, so I know the common name doesn't always yield what we want with this plant. It's such a good description for a number of plants.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

hey Aimee, maybe you can get me some of those heads when they split if they don't grow too far away from you? LMK

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Haven't seen any this year, but I haven't been out walking as much as usual, either. I will go to a spot where I last saw some and look for them.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

thanks

The Grapple Plant, Harpagophytum procumbens according to your link and others is an effective arthritus medicine. I would like to get some seeds as well.Tough to find any for sale.

I have some pods with seeds but they are a few years old, don't know how long they are good for.......

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

it would be worth a try to see if they're viable

Aimee, If you do get a chance to look for some, I would like to have a tuber or seed. I planted seed before but didn`t get any germination.LMK.Thanks

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Will do. It's rainy and wet today, but keep me reminded if I don't get back with you. I have the best of intentions but a med-clouded memory chip.

Kentwood, LA(Zone 8b)

Ok Aimee, Just remind me to remind you. My memory is not to keen either.{{{{HUGS}}}}

Susan
Check with Roadrunner I think she uses these for crafts so she may have some seed to spare.

Any of you that want seeds I should be able to send you some. I can't send any Devil's Claw this year as we seem to be short of them ourselves and we do use them for crafts.

Here are some Dream Catchers we make out of them. Let me know by email who wants seeds. Jo

Anyone still looking for these I have some from last year. The trick to germination is to peel the seed coat away and then plant it. Just nicking it does not work. The seeds are shaped similar to an apple seed inside the leathery black cover. I use a manicure scissors to carefully score the very edge and then peel away until the apple seed shaped white inner seed is able to be removed.
People also call these Unicorn plants because of the shape of the fruit before it sheds its green skin and splits open.

Windy...I've never planted any as they are usually plentiful around here...found quiet a few on our 8 acres 2 years ago...now they are harder to find. I sent some to Horseshoe and he grew some last year....I think he nicked and soaked the seeds...but your way sounds better. Jo
