Isn't it interesting how climate has an effect on color

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

Pink Beauty just before a tree fell on it. My Mississippi heat and sun cause the color to be more intense and the flowers re-curve a great deal more than in cooler weather.

It sure is loaded. Has it recovered from the tree falling on it?

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Beautiful, thanks for sharing.

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

No, Planted it in the ground and started a new one in a pot. I haven't had much luck with PB coming back strong after winter. But the roots are huge on this-was in 15 gallon pot, so I am hoping it will do better.
The tree stripped all but the major Y. It took 3 years of growing to get it blooming like that. dang nature!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

and it was such a beauty!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Oh she's beautiful. Hope my new cutting does well.

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

Oh Bward - - that is such a shame. She was a real beauty and hopefully, this time next year - she'll be back.

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Barb, she was a beauty. Next year ,again she will shine I bet.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Such a pretty one, why does this always seem to happen? Just when you can sit back and enjoy blooms, something wipes them out.

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Very pretty! Hopefully next season she'll be back to her old size.

Now I know why I don't have blooms on PB. It is going to need a couple of years to develop the roots, right? Mine didn't bloom last year so I took a cutting for this year, in fact, two cuttings. Have one in the ground and one in a pot and have had a total of two blooms on the one in the pot. Nothing from the one in the ground. Gosh, I hate having to hold over big plants. Thanks Barb. Your plant was gorgeous.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Barb that is one gorgeous brug! Surely worth the wait. Sorry it got broken. Maybe the new one will take off quicker.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Shirley I got my cutting last spring and it was about 6' and blooming like crazy last September.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Bonnie, I don't know what is going on. I'm using the same soil, the same fertilizing program with the same fertilizer and just not getting many blooms. I've heard of a lot of people having the same problem. I went out today and looked at the brugs that haven't bloomed yet and most of them are getting tiny buds now. Pink Beauty in the pot has a few buds, but the one in the ground doesn't. It is really strange. I have beautiful plants except where the very hungry grasshoppers are working on them, but I'll share. I had some big plans for a couple of crosses and really wanted to see the seedlings bloom. Funny thing happens though, when we get older, it doesn't seem as important as it used to. Just disappointing. There is always another year. I'm going to cut way back this year and only keep a few cuttings and work more with seedlings. I just don't need every brug there is out there, at least my body is telling me that now.

Remember how you didn't have blooms last year until late....I think that is what has happened here this year.

It rained here this morning also. I don't have any brugs large enough to bloom except a gold one that I've had for 3 yrs., but the few cannas that I have haven't bloomed this year either. That is very strange for South Texas. Don't know what is going on. It seems like my daylilies didn't bloom as well this year either.

Thanks again, Shirley.

Shirley, I too hope that flowers are just around the corner for everyone!!! it's cooling down and maybe they all won't be so labor intensive in the next few weeks. I do hope your seedlings bloom before frost.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Shirley, maybe its the heat that you've been having....
Last year most of my stuff never bloomed or bloomed late, and we had weeks of 90's

this year I have really had non stop blooming ,but its been cool and rainy, and I have used half the fertilizer that I used last year.Just haven't had time.........

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I'm sure that is it CC. I know that I'm seeing buds that are actually growing now, so with over a month to go before frost, I should get a few good blooms to get me through the winter.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Barb the PB i got from you didn't come back from last winter, fortunately i had back ups. very pretty pic. i think soil ph or something in the soil has something to do with color besides just the weather, maybe the amount of recurve also.

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

Arlene, I have problems with EP, PB, and golden yellow, not coming back. Also several other that I can't remember right now without looking it up. Must be something in their genes. It looks like we need to start making a list of the less hardy brugs.

city?? lol sticks, AR(Zone 7a)

had to make that my wall paper of the day------lol----I have to make everyone come into the den to see my comp wallpaper cuz I dont have enough blooms outside to show em what the big deal is about these plants. cheryl

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Barb, I thought at first it was just where they were planted was why they didn't come back, interesting to know. will certainly keep plenty of cuttings of this one.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

That's a beautiful plant, Barb. In fact, That looks just about perfect.

Versies are supposed to be less hardy,.. aren't they?

Arlene, remember that stem crud you showed us last year? I think I have that on my HG. I'll have to get a picture of it for you to look at.
