Sniff, Sniff...

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Well, my first brug, a Pink insignis, weathered an unexpected storm this morning ~ holding back tears here.

Guess I don't have to worry about how to get cuttings as it lost two beautiful pieces that had blooms opened and in progress...

Think I'm still in shock...

Morph, It is sooooo frustrating when this happens. Hang it there - - hopefully, it will come back soon. If anyone had told me that I would feel like crying over a plant, I would never have believed them. But we watch our brugs with great anticipation and it is heartbreaking to have this kind of destruction.

Six weeks ago, the ENTIRE top broke out of the whiskers shown here - - it was nothing but stem and one sucker. The brug you see in this photo is a sucker that was about 8 inches long at the time that the top was broken off. Look at it now! Brugs can be amazing at coming back. I'm hoping that your brug makes a speedy comeback. Nat

Too bad Deb...isn't it infuriating?! Hey, you can root the piece that broke. It may keep going. See Kell's 'these haven't been watered' post. :) Chin up. You still have enough there to do something.

I think something like this has happened to almost all of us at one time or another. It hurts, but those brugs really come back well. Wish I could make you feel better about it. I had a Dr. Suess in a perfect spot in the garden for viewing and this spring, the whole top was broken off in the wind. Below the Y. It has now made new shoots that have Y'd and with some luck, I'll see blooms again this year. It happens.

Thanks everyone for your encouraging words.

Nat, that is quite a comeback for the whiskers! It's almost hard to believe seeing how strong it looks in your picture.

Seed, I've got the two broken stems in water now hoping they will root. Remember my question about where to cut for cuttings ~ no need to worry about that anymore!

Brugie, I hadn't thought of the damage to a brug in the garden. At least I could move this one a out of further damage since it was in a pot. You're brave to put yours into the ground like that!

This experience will certainly keep me on my toes for the future...

Oh Morph. I feel so sad for you being your first bloom. It will be alright though. Just think now you have 2.

Morph, so sorry to hear that the storm broke your plant.

Yes, I'll try to think of this as being that I have more plants now :) Hopefully, the pieces that broke off will root... I guess I could really never have too many of this variety as I love the color & fragrance ☺

My Rosamond alley tree did that just as it was budding. it broke off just below the Y, too top heavy. It grew back even taller, but I remember how upset I was. They do come back fast.
