I asked this in Garden Talk but no-one has hazarded a guess...so thought one of you will know: I have a stream that keeps producing stringy algae. Is there anything I can do with it - other than throwing it away? Can you use it for mulch or something like that?
Stringy Algae
jenniferG-you could use barley straw and/or S.A.B from Aquascape, kills string algea, not a chemical, safe for plants and fish. Best to use barley straw half in half out of water. I would try to place it at the top of the stream. Barley straw takes 3-4 weeks to begin working. Pick barley straw up at Petsmart or maybe your feed store. Your local watergarden shop will have or be able to order I'm sure.
Ive used all sorts of aquatic plants in my composte heap.:).Just toss it in like you would any other stuff you put in there.:D.
Thanks leon and crimson! I'll look for the barley straw as a starter. If nothing else compost will do it!
