Versicolor Peach

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

I had just about given up hope that Versi Peach would bloom this year. Apparently, it did not like where I had originally placed it. Once I moved it, it started to grow by leaps and bounds.

Please don't laugh - - I planted chives in it's container in an effort to experiment with plants that repel mites and aphids.

I was surprised to see such large blooms as the buds were so much smaller than my other brugs. Is it true that I will need to overwinter this one in a warmer location than my other brugs? Nat

Wowser! That is impressive. I like the 'grass skirt' too. LOL And how about that ferocious watch dog?! Grrrr. :) Really nice brug!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

What a darling picture! I don't know who is cuter, the dog or the brug!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

really! Your dog is too cute! So did the chives repel mites?? If so, there will be a run on them at the store tomorrow. LOL

I heard the rumor that they like it warmer and I know in my yard the versicolors like more heat than I can give them. So I would think they would like heat in winter also.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Pretty brug and I love your dog. Yes, versicolors do need warmer temps in the winter. I've heard not below 40 and then I heard not below 54. I keep mine in the shop where it is about 60, so I haven't paid much more attention to the temp. thing for versis.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

I have to agree, that brug is beautiful but that poochie is the cutest.........lol

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Nice picture, good brug:-)

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Very pretty Nat, I do believe you have the longest blooms I've ever seen! Glad you showed it, I won't see mine bloom till next year ):
How is the scent(besides chivey, lol)

And how's your White Whiskers doing?

Do you mean to tell us that Gizmo doesn't keep all the bugs away?
Shame on him, tell him he needs to brush up on his watchdog tactics!

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

nathalyn, What a lovely brug, Really makes me envious. And your dog is lovely too. Donna

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

You dog is precious. My VersiPeach just bloomed last week for the first time. It is 2 years old. Still waiting for the Apricot to bloom as well.

Mukwonago, WI(Zone 5a)

Love the brug, Nat... It is so very pretty; BUT I love that furry little creature next to it even more!!! Are there puppies available? OOOOHHH it is so darn cute!!!
:-)

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Very pretty and such a cute dog. i really like V. Peach. I also want to know if the chives worked repelling insects.

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Yes, Nat, do you think the chives are at all helpful in repelling insects? I haven't seen as many brugs as the rest of y'all, but yours sure do seem lengthy! I believe I have a versi peach, but there's no way it will bloom this year. Hoping for next year and will pot it; no more ground plantings for my brugs. They just didn't fair as well as the potted ones.

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

Have the chives repelled mites?? I haven't had as many "bug" problems in this pot - - but it could be that this particular brug is not as susceptible to bugs. I am not really fond of the grass skirt look, as Badseed so aptly called it. I feel like I need to have at least one more year of underplanting with chives and dill before I come to any kind of conclusion. Here is one site that lists plants that repel bugs:http://www.ci.carlsbad.ca.us/cserv/2pest.html According to this site, I need to plant prostrate rosemary to repel slugs. Any one ever heard of this? If it works, I would need a truck load to deter my zillions of slugs.

I also planted dill around my frosty pink that is in the ground, and I haven't seen bugs of any kind on that brug. And I like the smell and look of dill.

Vi - White Whiskers has recovered nicely from the top breaking off after a bad storm. The sucker that I was saving for you has grown to nearly the size of the original canopy and is blooming nicely. Fortunately, it has also put out another sucker that I am saving for YOU! See attached photo taken yesterday.

RubyTues - - no puppies. Gizmo is fixed and getting older. I wouldn't mind having another papillon puppy myself. They are good little companion dogs, not overly yappy and they love cats, kids and other dogs.

Nat....We have had cats for about the past 15 years because everyone in the house either worked or went to school. We are down to just one persian...who rules the roost as you can see. Doesn't it look like his ego needs a bit of trimming?..LOL I am going on a papillon puppy search to see if there are any registered breeders around here. Wouldn't want to have ANY connection w/ those horrid puppy mills I've read about. Can you tell me more about Giz's life and habits in an email? Things like shedding...ilnesses his breed may be prone to? OOOPs..I've begun a novel here. Do email me-OK?
Thanks Nat,
Renee

nat,
Beautiful brugs and a very cute Gizmo!

Nat,your brugs. are BEAUTIFUL.
I did the same thing, planting clives in the pots with my brugs.-didn't know about dill will have to try that.
Gizmo is so cute,a real sweetie.

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Anything is worth trying and I love this thread for the ideas it's generated! I will definately try the dill AND the chives. My bet is that chives or garlic might be good as repellants in my particular zone. Thanks for the link, Nat! All those blooms at once is just amazing!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Renee, you kitty is a doll! So beautiful!

Mukwonago, WI(Zone 5a)

Thanks Kell...That thing is unusually friendly...I think HE thinks he is a dog sometimes! Answers the door bell etc. WE are fully trained and respond to all his demands or he will pester the heck out of us. Being as he is:...I do think he may be lonely and needs some sort of a companion. Nat's little darling looks like a pup of that breed might be the our savior.

Don't you ever sleep..Kell? Wish I had that kind of stamina!

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Nat, I love your garden.

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

Thanks lhughes. Other than my brugs, most things are looking pretty sad right now. I plan to spend this holiday weekend yanking out all the dying annuals, dividing perennials and tilling my beds. Where did the summer go? I cannot believe that next week is September!!!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

We will have about six weeks here before our first frost unless we get lucky or unlucky, for that matter. I just hope all my work is done and plants are inside when it hits. Don't have nearly enough blankets to keep things warm.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Hard to believe that summer is winding down. I guess Labor Day is the indicator. I still won't have frost here for a long time. Yesterday and today are our hottest days this summer.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm not pusing the booze but someone else was having problems with slugs and what we use to do in Oregon where we have those huge banana slugs is to set a saucer or lid or what have you by the base of the plant and fill it with bear and the slugs love it but it's the last toast they take. Not sure if it's the hops or yeast but it sure did the trick in our garden.
Good luck and if it doesn't work you can drown your problems with a can or two.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Nathalyn its a pretty brug and Gizmo is cute

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

Cala, This is one of your brugs(as are a lot of mine). Gizmo is cute, but I sure do love your Wally. I think my DH would be happier with a Wally dog, instead of my princess dog.

Jan, yep - I have several beer traps. It's been such a wet year here, the slugs are reproducing quicker than I can liquor them up! Nat

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Wow, it sure grew a lot after you gave it a new home!
