I really don't know what the problem is with my brugs. I have grown CG for several years and this is the first time I've seen this to happen. Buds form get to be about 3/4 inch then turn grayish green and dry up. The foliage looks pretty good. Now finally I see 3 or 4 buds that will probably bloom. Help Donna
aborted brug buds.
Try moving them to a shadier area and see if the buds will hold.
I'm having the same trouble this year. I think because we are so hot. My CG is in total shade after about 11 AM, so I don't think it is the sun, just the heat in general. There are lots of seedlings that have Y'd and Y'd again, but the buds just sit there. I feel badly for you and know what you are going through. Hopefully we will all have a better year next year.
I'm experiencing this same behavior but with the luffa ball plants I'm growing. The male flowers will bloom, but all the female sprouts stall & then die during formation :( I can't move them since they're in the ground. They usually grow in Mexico so I thought full sun would be just fine. I'm having trouble comprehending that it could be the heat, although maybe it's more humid here? Just don't know and I am really frustrated!
Sorry for your struggles with your brugs, Donna :(
Morph,do you have ants on your vines?
Thanks, and I think you all are right it probably was/is the heat. We had an extended dry heat wave, longer and hotter than since they have been keeping records. My CG receives some sun early in the morning then in shade from my awning and from the house later. Maybe since our weather has cooled down some !!!!87 degrees today, rather than the 3digit weather we were having, the buds will develop, but now i have to think about cooler nights. Donna
Yes, Root, tons of tiny ants! I think they demolish the female buds, but I don't know how to rid the plants from them :{ Any ideas that I can apply immediately?
Donna, what does the CG stand for? I forgot to ask in my first post before I went on about my problems...
