Best time to pollinate brugs?

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

If I try to cross pollinate brugs, when is the best time during the blooming process to do this? Toward the end of the flowering cycle? Beginning, middle? Thanks ☺

you have got to get to them before the insects do....like the moths! so the earlier the better

I pollinate mine right before the flower opens, while the ends are still sealed and before the bugs get to it.

Wow ~ okay. Thanks :)

How do you make sure nothing gets in there afterwards or does it matter?

Oddly, though I have plenty of flowering brugs in the summer I do not get volunteer pods so I am not concerned about that. However, I do usually first remove any anthers in a flower before I pollinate it so there is no reason for a pollinating insect to go into the flower after me.

I understand some tie the flower closed after or they take silver foil and cover the tip of the stigma after they pollinate.
