I have several Aloe Vera plants that I would like to get rid of.
I have no idea how to ship these things. I have a few babies, which I imagine would be easier to ship, but it's the more mature plants that need good homes. It seems to me that if I bind the 'leaves' together to fit in a reasonable sized box, they will be rotten by the time they get where they are going.
Any advice? I really don't want to compost these plants.

Aloe Vera - how to ship?
i would use something "mesh-like" to hold the leaves together. maybe fashiioning a baggie out of an old onion bag or something like that. can't keep them too tight, just enought to support the leaves closer together. and then put that inside a bunch of damp newpaper. hope that helps.
Thanx for the reply, pzmaybee.
That might be worth a try. I'll have to use a 'triangle tube' box, since the only other boxes I seem to be able to get from the PO are those 'shirt' boxes.
They would be squeezed kinda tight. I may have to find alternate boxes. I guess I'll experiment with one poor, unlucky plant. =(

Ask your PO to get you some square boxes, these come in several sizes 8 X 8, some are 8-10" deep and up to about 20" square. I'm not looking at the chart but have used several different sizes.
I would wrap only the roots in damp paper towels, then just the roots/towel in saran wrap. Then make a cone with dry newspaper for the top. Tape the cone with masking tape to hold the leaves together. If the leaves are damp, they may cook in this 90F heat we are having.
Azalea, I can't find any of those boxes. And my PO can't get ANY boxes, they get their boxes from me. (how pathetic is that??? small town stuff.) I'm keeping an eye out for decent sized boxes, so I can give this a shot. Thinking about making some from the 'shirt' boxes I can get from usps.com.
Thank you for the advice, that sounds like the way to go. The leaves seem to dry up and die if anything puts pressure on 'em. Masking tape around the newspaper might be just the thing.

sundry, if you go to usps.com and put supplies in the search box, you can get priority mail boxes free, delivered to your house from the PO at no charge for anything. You can get labels and tape too. I get all of my boxes this way as I sell on Ebay too
Hi!
Here's a direct link to the larger Priority Mail Box available at the Postal Store.

:)
alrighty then, they are ordered. All I could find before was the shirt boxes ... duh! The guy at the PO will be so happy, and I can try to send out some Aloe Veras.
Is this a great website, or what? Thanx maggiedew and flowox.

no problem :)
It may take a couple of weeks for them to deliver tho. They have an order blank you can also order - I suggest you get an extra for your PO!! They gave me my first one, then I faxed it in, couldn't get the online thingy to work - good luck. There is also an 800# if you can't order online. The boxes come in lots of 25.
Mine never take longer than 4 days to get here. I must be lucky.......LOL
I've ordered boxes online before, but could only find the shirt type boxes and the triangle tubes. It takes two weeks for them to come in.
And I usually order an extra box of boxes for the PO. This time, they will only get leftovers ... LOL, but I ordered 2 different sized boxes, so there should be some left over. I don't have that many aloe vera to get rid of.
Hopefully, the weather will be a little more amenable by that time. Nothing but rain and heat and humidity here again.
Thanx again for all the help.

I found another page with the larger boxes on it - if you go to the next page, there is tape, etc.
