Seed pod on double purple

Mobile, AL(Zone 8b)

Hello. My double purple has about 10 seed pods. First one split open today. I took it off and put it in a bag. Can I sew them in sand and put in my greenhouse? I do all of my cutting in sand and have had good luck. I have never started seed before. Any Advice?

I'd wait until next season before I planted them. This way you won't have to winter them over. They start very easy from seed.

My mother in law wants one. Should I take a cutting then? How do I store the seeds? Right now they are still in the pod. Thanks for replying!!

Kricket- Take the seeds out of the pod and dry them on a paper towel, store them in a cool dark place over the winter. In early spring I start the seeds and before you know it they will be in bloom. I treat my datura as a annual and don't winter them over.

Thanks, datdog. I will dry them out today. Will I get the double purple or will I get white?

Kricket: They will be double purple the same as the plant they came from. Keep on watching the other seedpods to catch the seeds from them. You will have many seeds. I start my seeds in potting soil or the soiless growing mix.

Thanks, Debby. I have one seed pod on a double yellow, too. I'm looking forward to planting them. When should I start? Spring starts early here. I was planting in Feb last year. Only had to cover the garden once.

Kricket: you can start the seeds inside about 2 months before your last frost date.
