In Honor....

Cambria, CA(Zone 10a)

...of this new forum, I went out and took pictures this afternoon. This poor plant was subjected to bad conditions for years (virtual neglect and hot, hot sun). So the leaves are a bit damaged but they're greening up nicely. And the blooms are spectacular. I think she likes it here.

The color is a bit pinker than reality. They have more of a cocoa cast to them.

Stella, from the looks it seems to enjoy your care.
Now that I see the leaves and the flowers I'm pretty sure that you have H. pubicalyx.
Post your pics in the Plants Database to share the bloom joy of Hoyas :).
You also should enter the 2003 DG picture contest with pic No.2 (maybe another shot where the top is not cut off).
Congrats on a beautiful hoya and thanks for sharing.

OK, gotta work right now but I'll post to the PDB. Thanks for positively identifying it for me. Here's another one, better centered.

I think the bottom shot is excellent. Wow it is beautiful.
Very sharp, what a photo now I must try. You have inspired me, thanks, Norma

Milan, can you help me also. I know this is a species, I got it from Dale Kloppenburg. I lost the label.
It has apple green fuzzy leaves, the longest being 3" long, it is growing like crazy, I will give you a cutting if you are able to ID it correctly. The leaf is dull green, and rather thick and stiff. The vine is growing down, and doesn't seem to twine. Each leaf has a sharp apex, that seems to have browned. The vine has opposite leaves at this time, and no sign of a flower puduncle, the roots have not filled the 5" pot yet. Are you able to give me any help, even a clue would be wonderful. Norma

Norma, got any pictures of the plant?
What is the average width of the leaves?
Plain leaves or are vein patterns visible?
Fuzzy all over, just on top or bottom?

I'll give it a shot but no promises :)

First guess without the above info would be H. davidcumingii though leaves have a very slight "fuzz" on that one.

BTW, thanks stella for contributing your pictures to PDB.
Hopefully we'll get many more Hoya pics (also foliage, not only flowers) in there.
So did you enter the DG 2003 contest with your flower pic?

Norma, if the underside of the leaf is fuzzy, the leafs are a roundish shape and new growth is reddish then it could be H. australis 'Keysii'.

PanamonCreel, I'd enter some photos in the contest, but there doesn't seem to be a category for these or other just-plain-close-ups of flowers. Where would you enter it?

Celaya, Mexico(Zone 10a)

In the close-up of flower category as you stated above.

Am I looking in the wrong place or something? These are the only categories I find under Dave's Contests for 2003. Where do I find floral close-ups?

Beautiful bloom! I had no idea they came in colors as the only one I've seen in bloom was white. I just found this forum yesterday.
