I was told this was a Hoya. I gotten so blurry eyed from trying to ID it. Can anyone help please.... And yes, I have more for ID.
IDMaybe a Hoya??
Very difficult to say for me d_r. Could also be a dischidia or something else entirely. Most of the time only the flowers in connection with the leaves will tell what it is.
Sorry
That's my problem.....no flowers. I have a dischidia... oops I think I have four.
vanilla planifolia, the vanilla bean orchid, without a doubt.
I have these all over my greenhouses and sunrooms. They're quite nice, bold vines, but so far I haven't had any of mine bloom. I've heard it said you need ~30 ft of vine on a plant first, but they are quite impressive when they do. I'll look around and see if I can dig up any of my pictures of them.
Where did you get it, by the way?
I am told that to produce bloom the greenhouse grown Vanilla Orchids are stressed...in nature they go thru a drought period. In cultivation water is held back...the scientist who heads the Ag. Extension Service at UH told me that a while back. Yes, the flowers are lovely...but no scent! and must be hand pollinated in a very special way. They depend on a specific bee as a pollinator and this bee lives only in Mexico (or SA)...therefore the vanilla producers in other parts of the word (French Polynesia, Indonesia, Hawaii) must take advantage of the ONE day when they can hand pollinate them.
There IS a variegated variety, as well.
I have been searching for a Vanilla orchid for a year now! I saw them on EBay about that long ago, and since have not been able to find one...where did you find yours!?? If by chance anyone would love to trade for one, please let me know! I have Tacca aka Black Bat Flower blooming size for trade!! or please let me know a source?? Debra~
