Whiskers is blooming!

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

Finally, things have been very slow to bloom for me this year, guess it is the strange weather.

Mary, put me at the top of the list for a dozen of each when you get these. LOL

You got it!

Whiskers is an incredible brug. She blooms and blooms and blooms once she gets started.

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

I made trees out of my Whiskers seedlings that someone sent me. They are at least 6 feet tall. One has had quite a few blooms, the others not so many, and one none yet at all. I'm thinking that one is going to grow 20 feet tall before it blossoms! So pretty, makes a lovely display.

I can't wait to get this one! Love the yellows!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Boy, yours has a low calyx! very pretty

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Kristi, if mine does not do something soon, it may very well show up in your mail box! It is like 3.5 feet tall, I have been growing it for over a year and still no sign of a Y! It is really ticking me off! LOL

Edited to say, I have two Whiskers! Just went out to make a list. So there are two of them defying me! LOL You want one??

I do, I do.

Michele, don't feel bad. Mine is about five to six foot tall and no buds. It has Y'd though. Things are just very slow this year.

LOL Hughes. When I figure out what I have extra, I'll be glad to share. Problem is out of all the brugs I have, only one has bloomed! Two more have Y'd and I am very hopeful! The rest are all seedlings and I'd hate to trade them before I ever see them bloom, but I also don't know about over wintering them all. Gee!
Shirley, you have a Y??? I could be happy with that! (Well for a day or two then I would be ticked I didn't have buds!) LOL

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

Kell, I thought that calyx looked extra low, also.

Kristi, I'll have plenty to share come fall, if you want one, and anybody else for that matter!

Mary I would think I had died and gone to brug heaven if a lavender one showed up for real somewhere. Great photo, my absolute favorite color.

My Snowbank, new this summer, is at least 36" tall and no y, I hope I can keep it going to see at least one bloom before it goes dormant in the GH. Donna

Please, Please Please, let me know when you have any brug cuttings or seeds to share. The pictures are absolutely
stunning. PLMK

Teresa ...I just cut 3 shoots from the soil from Whiskers. They are about 18 inches long. You want them? They will have to be rooted...but will probably grow to be very tall before you'll see any flowers. Maybe if I took some cuttings from above the "Y" ..the new plant will flush at a lower height...and sooner??? Anyone have thoughts about trying this?

Hi Teresa! Welcome from Cincinnati! I think the Ohians are taking over DG. LOL There will be lots of extra cuttings when the weather cools off. Renee, if I understand right, cuttings from above the Y do bloom faster. I got cuttings from Mystic about a month ago. One has rooted and Y'd twice and has a bunch of buds at about 12 inches. Should look funny when it blooms! LOL

Mukwonago, WI(Zone 5a)

Still...it could be just the thing if you pollinate the thing and want to bring it in until the pod ripens. You gotta post a pic of that one, Michele. Bet it looks different??? LOL
I think I'm going to focus on starting some of my cuttings from the flowering range to do just that. It will be a heck of a lot easier than doing the air layering on specific branches that have pods...don't you think?

I will post when I get a new camera which should be in the next few days. Mine went batteries up. booooo hooooooo. Someone had posted they air layered while they had buds and flowers and the works. Once it rooted, they just cut it free. Now that must take talent! lol

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

Blooming has occurred so late for me this year, that if I get any pollinations to take, I am thinking the pods will be very late in maturing, possibly even after frost, so that is what I was considering doing with branches that have pods, airlayering them then cutting off, potting up and bring in the GH to save the pods.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Heck, I'll be thrilled if I get to see anymore bloom before I have to drag them in! LOL It could cool off here anytime soon, or it could be November before a frost. One never knows here.

Mukwonago, WI(Zone 5a)

Same here!
