Moth or Butterfly?

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

Spotted this guy in the wisteria yesterday. He was not very cooperative..each time I went to take a pic he flew off. This shot was "pick of the litter" so to speak. I hope it's good enough for an id. Was NOT interested in flowers, just leaves.

Looks like a silver spotted skipper http://tdpc02.fnal.gov/peterson/tom/Butterflies/SilverSpottedSkipper.html I had a ton of them around early in the season but I haven't seen any lately. Wonder where they go?...

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

That looks like it. Thanks. Is it moth or butterfly?

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

I think they're butterflies... at least they're listed in my BF book :)

The Silver spotted Skipper is a butterfly, and the Wisteria is one of the host plants that it uses.
You are about to get some chewed Wisteria leaves, hope you don't mind.
The Silver Spotted Skipper is the only butterfly I can think of that you can hear fly, it's actually quite noisy.

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Not only noisy, but they attack you too.I have one in my garden that mauls me everytime I go outside. It whams into me with a loud "THUMP!" cute though.:).

Crimsontsavo, I've heard of birds dive-bombing you, but never butterflies!

Ellabell, GA(Zone 8a)

That's funny about the dive bombing. I always figured they weren't paying attention, or where just clumsy fliers.
