How do I do this?

I am new to this -- However, I have some perennials to thin out and I'd love to trade for some different plants. Can someone explain to me how this works? I have some Bearded Tongue and some Bellflower that needs to be divided. As well as some Physostegia and some Chrysanthemum - Nippon. They are all healthy plants. I did not divide them yet, and the last two haven't bloomed yet, so I won't be dividing them for a few months. Just thought I'd check on how the whole thing works... :)
