Maya has been sending up many shoots through the soil this year and this one just happened to be different in that it is mostly white. I know there are ways to promote this look but this gal hasn't a clue of what should be done. This basal cutting has been potted up in soil and bagged (thanks Kell..for that rooting tip) for about a week and is showing signs of root growth already. I would love to see what this new little Maya could look like IF I can keep her growing. Can a plant survive with such a small amount of chlorophyll? Any advice???
PLEASE HELP !! ... Expert Advice Needed
I would say no ..but who knows?
Strange things happen anymore. lol
I have variegated canna Stuttgart new growth all white when hot.
Changes back to 'normal' as it cools.
Keep us posted to how this goes. It is interesting.
Best luck to keep it going (o:
Ruby, this plant will die because it lacks the chlorophyll. It survives only on the mother plant because she supplies the needed nourishment from sprouts with chlorophyll.
Sorry Ruby..it won't make it......too white.
It is just so gorgeous!!! I love it! Did you leave a stub of it on the mother plant? I always leave a stub on to get more sideshoots fast if that is my goal. If you did maybe you will get more white growth on your maya to enjoy it that way!
Thanks All....Guess this was just a little 'wishful thinking' on my part-huh? Should have known this little one didn't have a chance. Oh well... it sure was interesting to watch this unusual shoot grow to 12 inches while attached. Looks like "Mother Nature" threw me a 'zinger' this time :-(
Kell...I did leave a 'stump' at the base. But there doesn't seem to be much reason to go on with any additional cuttings from this one.
Well, you already cut cut it off and potted it up, so you might as well let it TRY to grow. Maybe it will be like a bumblebee, IT doesn't know that it's impossible!
But it will make your brug look more interesting growing on it! I wonder how long it will live attached.
I've had one attached for over a year. It's white as snow, no green at all. It was interesting, so I left it.
I would also! I have an almost pure white one on one of my variegated brugs. I am leaving it. I live the look of it.
Yes..it is an interesting 'touch' to the rest of the plant. It would be nice to see the 'stump' continue growing without pigmentation. But it won't last long here as I can't keep any of the large brugs over the winter...darn!!! I'll should talk to the DH about moving to a warmer climate. FAT CHANCE on that thought...he's not the 'adventuresome' type.
get him to build you a GH. they are not that hard to do if it is a small one.
Kell, if I could heat a greenhouse here, it would cost more than all the plants would be worth, just to keep it warm enough. I think Renee is even colder than we are here.
OK lets go back to the original idea..... MOVE!!!
Hey Kell, I asked you once if you had any neighbors that were moving or selling or something. You have the ideal place for growing brugs.
Whatch the little clorophyll at this sport.
may be a slow grower.
Please give a chance to it.
LOL Brugie, that would be such fun!!
Hey Kell...Don't think for one min. that Shirley would be coming alone!!!! With that being so... are you prepared for the two of us as neighbors??? LOL
Why doesn't everyone move to San Antonio? Hardly ever freezes, and boy would I love to have you as neighbors. lol
We can all buy a huge piece of land and start a brug ranch!!!
