Ginger from Seed

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I got this seed at least 2 years ago from Brugie(I think). It was labeled "yellow ginger". These are the buds. It's a nice big plant. Looks like some kind of hedychium.

Here is how it looks when the buds open. Does it look like Kahili Ginger?

Kinda pretty Susie. Glad you were able to get some of the seed to grow. Sure didn't grow for me. The seed packet only said Yellow Ginger, if I remember right.

Brugie, that's all it said. I was sure it was from you(see, my memory is improving). You sent me 5 or 6 seeds and only one came up. It didn't grow much last year, but this spring it came up and is a nice clump. The flower is very pretty and if it's Kahili I'm extra happy because I lost mine last winter.

I'm happy for you. Sure is pretty. My Butterfly ginger hasn't bloomed for me so I'm thinking that we just don't have enough time up here for them.

I've found my Butterfly Gingers bloom better for me if I don't leave them in the ground.

Cala, that's so pretty, is the scent really that strong?

Brugie, how tall is your ginger? I still have some of my smaller ones making buds now. Don't give up yet!

It is fragrant in the evenings.

Vi, it is about 30 inches tall. We only have six or eight weeks left before frost, so it better get in gear.
