Wanted Privacy
At the risk of becoming an anti-social outcast - have you tought of a leylandii hedge. I know, they can grow to 120 feet and be a real neighbourhood friendship breaker, but they can be trimmed to form a neat thick and high as you want hedge - and they grow at a rate of 4-6 feet a year !!
Ok everyone, tell me its not really a garden plant and should be sent to Mars - I still use them (sensibly I hope)

P.S. They are good barrier to noise as well.

I used various rose of sharons for privacy.... but it takes a few years for them to reach the height you need. They also are very ornamental, but takes some patience!
