Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

Good morning everybody! And Happy Sunday. :)

We had a bunch of people over last night to celebrate Kenny's birthday and a good time was had by all. I baked him a four layer coconut cake and got rather creative with decorating it. I'd neglected to get any colored icing or food coloring for the writing, so I used Tropical Punch KoolAid to dye some of the vanilla icing ~ it looked and tasted great! I think I'll do that from now on, even when I don't have to. And at the last minute I couldn't find hide nor hair of the birthday candles, so I had to use stick matches. *Giggle!* Those worked okay, but didn't stay lit very long and it was a trick to take them off without leaving ashes from the match heads on the cake. *Note to self ~ find those birthday candles!*

Kenny's doing a LOT better. He has a great sense of humor about getting thrown off his horse. He thought the figures on top of his cake were a hoot! (See pic below) The bruise on his face is all but gone ~ just a small scab spot still there next to his eye. His wrist is still VERY sore, but it should be all better next week or so.

Big Sis and I had a little talk about her boys ~ how they really wanted to continue living with me for a while and how she could use an extended break. They'll start school this Tuesday, so we'll be getting in a different rhythm than we've had. They've been staying with Kenny and I all summer and we really enjoy having them here. I'm SO glad to have them stay longer ~ I really think it will be good for them. And I know they love it. Their house doesn't come with chickens and sheep and pigs and ducks and guineas and HORSES! Much less the creek ~ they LOVE being down there. And it will help Big Sis and BIL deal with their depression ~ that's always easier without added responsibility. I know already that the boys are benefiting from being here. They're already slimmer and trimmer because I don't let them park in front of the tv. Well, that's not really true ~ they're usually too busy to. :) I do give them chores, something they didn't have much of at home, but they usually find things outside to entertain themselves with the rest of the time. I LOVE that. :)

Gotta' go fix lunch for Mom and Dad. I hope everyone has a great day today!
