in the ground in pots. What size pot is needed to get the best growth results.
Question about planting
Donna,in zone 8b would you be able to keep them in the ground year round?I'm not sure how far north folks push the zone,I only keep the ones in pots that I am giving away, while I am young enough to dig them in fall,I will.
I use 5 gallon pots. anything larger would be a bear to dig up. I have no trouble with them growing, one is 10' tall.
in 8b we get enough frost to kill them back then it warms back up. It's a real pain. I think it was January last year before we got zapped really good. Monster brug held up until the 3rd zap. Then I cut her down. Thanks Tig
Donna, make holes in the sides so the roots can have lots of room to come out and go deep into the ground.
Though I have the 15 gallon sitting on top of the ground and the other day I realized most had rooted out thru the little drainage holes and were now firmly rooted into the ground! LOL
So Kell, I bet yours don't blow over much?? LOL
boy, I wish I could leave them in the ground! I'm zone 8 too but we can get down into the teens and twenties sometimes, if only for a few days at a time. so unless I really mulched, I would be in trouble most winters.
Carena we do to in South Mississippi zone 8b. We just mulch heavily. We get just enough to kill everything back then it warms back up.
wow!!! I'm going to experiment with a few to see if they make it, sometimes other plants like geraniums and snapdragons overwinter just fine, it's worth a try! I'll take cuttings too, just in case we have a hard winter.
Careena, if you have geraniums to overwinter, you will probably be able to overwinter brugs, too. Be caureful, tho, cause sometimes brugs do not come back; I think it depends on where they are planted, like a micro climate.
