This leaf is huge. The plant is growing in an 8" pot!
Taro leaf for Root
You are kidding me!!!!!!!!Does it have a varigated stripe down the middle???It is a monster!!!
Just the normal stripe from the leaf vein. It's really dark green, it was in the sun when I took the picture. I have one that's got variegated spots on it but it isn't as big.
WOW, is that 8" pot made out of cement? How's it holding it up? LOL
Great looking leaf
It's propped up.
LOL.........that explains it ;)
I always loved those things but I just don't have enough room. Had to choose between those and brugs and well, you know the answer to that......hehe
Flow, put them at the base of the brugs. I have Lime Zinger growing under a L'Amour and they are both happy. They are in separate pots.
you have the ears and the brugs in seperate pots or can you put them together? Can I bring the ears in the house in the winter? I know they'd die outside, wouldn't they?
I may just have to find some room somewhere and see if I can get one somewhere. Let me know what the best thing to do with them is as far as them going with the brugs :)
They are in separate pots Flow. I bring all of my potted ears inside in the winter. I just let them go dormant. Except someone said don't let the African Mask go dormant, takes too long to come back out.
wonder if I can still find some somewhere here. I'll have to go out and look at the garden center tomorrow :)
Then I'll have to figure out where to set them.......LOL
How do you let them go dormant?
Quit watering them. The cool temps help too, most usually go dormant when the temps fall below 45*.
so if I put them in the basement to overwinter. Would I put them under the grow lights or just leave them in another spot that's cool?
They don't need light when they are dormant.
I love the green in winter,so I kept most of mine going with my Gro lights, you may let them go dormant, don't miss out on a great plant, remind me in spring!
Root, it doesn't hurt them to let them grow all winter?? Wonder how many florescent lights I can buy before DH will notice?
Susan, I've had some planted right in with a couple of my brugs. Not a bad idea when they are small, but when you are ready to dig them out of the pot, it isn't fun. Way too many roots to separate.
Ok, if I find some EE's then I'll put them in seperate pots.........now to go find some.........
Could you not put them in a smaller pot inside the bigger brug pot?
hmmmmmmmmmm.......I guess I could try that too. But first I have to find me some ears.........LOL
What kind do you want?
You know Chele, I don't care what I get........LOL....don't have any at all so I'm not picky ;)
edited to say:
Does this mean I'm going to get addicted to another plant? ROTFL
maybe you guys are a bad influence on me.........nah, I don't think so.......hehehe

Susan, I got my first one last year and now I have about 15 kinds. Probably small potatoes compared to most, but I love them and they are a close second to brugs.
Brugie, I don't think I could fit that many in my yard........LOL
I will have to settle with 2, 3 at the most ;)
Flow, do you still have your little pond? Maybe you would do better to stick some taro in there. They get huge!!
No Chele, I closed the pond down. It was a hassle to keep clean and Snoopy kept falling in by trying to get around it.......LOL
Cala, last winter I ran 24 4footers in the basement,HD had them on sale.
LOL Snoopy ain't a swimmer huh? I can only imagine. My first pond liner got trashed because Nina chased a monster toad through the pond. Maybe you can try another pond raised up with lumber or something.
yeah, still thinking but haven't figured anything out yet. I was thinking of making my own water feature to stick on the deck with a small waterfall and all. Would be made out of wire mostly at the top and a basin at the bottom for the water to flow into.........now how to do it is still a mystery to me as I want to be able to use some sort of spray foam that I can pain to look natural but don't know where to get the foam from. Any ideas out there?
Sorry Cala, didn't mean to hijack your thread :(
I cannot think of the name right off, but you can get that foam for filling cracks and gaps and stuff at the hardware store. It dries hard and can be sanded and painted. I just don't know how it would hold up with constant moisture.
once it's sealed it should be fine. So I guess I'll have to go to Lowes and ask them about that stuff. Thanks Chele, didn't know hardware stores would carry something like that. I may make that my winter project :)
Susan, how about using plaster of Paris, chicken wire and newspaper to make ur mold? u can shape it any way u wish it to be, same with size. just a thought out of my head, don't know if it will work, do u think so?
when my son was in the grade school, we made a manger, using chicken wire, newspaper to make the mold. then the plaster of paris. took several coatings but it worked then. i think it might work in this case. what do u think?
I'm thinking about an oak barrel for my deck with a small liner. Just love that sound of running water and will have to figure out how to do that part. If nothing else, I could grow something in it, hopefully bigger than mosquitoes.
MaVie, I've thought out the plaster route. The only problem is, it doesn't hold up well with moisture. That's what I use to make those masks you hang on the wall........you know?
Brugie, did you know if you put some olive oil into your water, like say a barrel, it won't get mosquitos in it. They don't like the oil
Thanks Susan, I had not heard of that. We sure have more mosquitoes this year than we have ever had before. Funny too, because we haven't had any rain.
We don't have much here where I am but my mom's was horrible. I'd go outside for 2 minutes and I was eaten alive :(
Hey flo, that stuff is called 'Great Stuff'. You can get it anywhere. HD, Lowes, Walmart, etc...
k, off to Lowes I go then.............as soon as I dry my hair
Apparently she left the dryer on too long or it got to hot and fried her brain. LOL She went to Lowe's and bought everything but the foam!!! (ducking now before she finds this).
hey, I found it.......LOL
you're bad!!!!
I had a cart full of plants, no room for foam ROTFLMBO
(blushing) Oh, you found it huh? Hmmm, I wonder who stole my identity! How rude! giggle. Couldn't resist. I saw that you cleaned up on the houseplants. :)
