Finally - My First Bloom This Summer

Mississauga, ON(Zone 6b)

Can hardly explain how excited I am! I have 8 brugs on my balcony and this is the first bloom on this one brugie. The tag says Versicolor (pink flowers) - it sure looks yellow to me. First picture is the bud at 9:30 a.m. today.

Most usually come out yellow or white then change to their true color in day or so. Happy for you. Isn't this exciting?

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Very pretty. Don't forget to go out after dark to smell it!

Thanks Hibiscus. It sure is exciting. I haven't had brugs for a year or so - and certainly nothing like this! I have another one that I bought at Canada Blooms this year that is put out by "Patio Plants" in a box. Didn't say what color it would be but it has 13 buds forming. I can hardly wait for that one to bloom. I've never had one that had more than a few blooms at any one time.

Poppysue - it is just getting dark here now - so I will have a bedtime celebratory drink and and sit out for awhile and smell it.

Great picture. I'm excited for you! Nothing like the first bloom off of a plant.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Congrats. I know the excitement of your first bloom.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

It will keep getting better. Hope you enjoy that drink and the brug fragrance.

Congratulations on your 1st Brug bloom! It always SO exciting to watch the very first blossom reveal itself!!!

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

I'm excited for you, too, Daturalady! I've never had brugs until this year and I have two (maybe 3) that have buds! I'm getting anxious as I don't know how long from bud stage until opening will take! Congrats!

BTW, do you know where Thessalon is?

Mississauga, ON(Zone 6b)

Thanks everyone for the kind words and sharing my excitement of a first bloom!! The only brug I had a couple of years ago was a white one and knowing bupkus about this plant I never thought to see if that one had a fragrance. Actually I'm terribly allergic to perfume of any nature - so I just took a quick whiff of it last night. It sure was fragrant for just 1 bloom! Checked on it again when I got up this morning and it seems to be a much deeper yellow. It will be fun to watch it over the next couple of days to see if it changes to pink as the tag says.

Morph, Thessalon is in Northern Ontario (between Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury. I've been through it many, many years ago, but it is still a 5 hour or so drive from Toronto (where I'm nearest to, Mississauga being just 16 kilometers west of TO.

Glad you went out to smell your bloom :) Hope you can post another pix so we can compare the color & how it changes.

I didn't realize that Mississauga was so big. Thessalon is just the closest town to where we go each year on vacation. The camp is still about an hour north from there. Thought I'd ask cuz you never know..

Morph - I'm going to take some more pictures about the same time I did last night. I did take a few this morning - because the yellow colour had really deepened; but when I look at the pictures I took, it doesn't really show that. Of course, I haven't uploaded the images to my computer yet. So I will post another picture after dinner.

Mississauga is not that big a city - population around 500,000 (I think).

Here's another shot of this "Pink" Versicolor brug taken at 6:30 p.m. The pale yellow that it started out as yesterday has deepened to what reminds me of a buttercup yellow. It will be interesting to watch it over the next few days to see if it turns to pink or whether the label on the plant was incorrect.

Beautiful, love it pink or yellow. Your foliage is so great, the cats are eating mine like crazy.

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

mmmm... yes, i'm anxious to see what you have there! very yellow right now, isn't it? that will be amazing if it does turn into pink... but, then i have not grown brugs before this year.

thanks for posting the pix to compare!

city?? lol sticks, AR(Zone 7a)

Im thinkin its prolly gonna stay yellow?--but its a lovely yellow so thats not a bad thing is it? congrats

Mississauga, ON(Zone 6b)

It is a spectacular bloom. I don't care what color it turns out to be. I'm too new to brugs to know what it should be doing. I had a white brug a couple of years ago, and looking at the photos I took of that one it looks quite plain compared to this one. I think it's the tips on the flower edge that makes it so special to me.
