Naked Ladies

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

I have 5 trades of Naked Ladies.
You will get 1 LARGE bulb, and 2 or 3 smaller bulbs.
I will only trade with Paid members.... and if we're still trying to complete another trade, let's complete that one first before we start another.

I like everything....tempt me.
I'd particuarly like red raspberries or thornless blackberries.
hostas and Iris and daylilies I don't have. I need to complete this quickly, as I start school next Friday!

Melissa, What grade are you in this year??? Huh? LOL
If I were brave, I'd go back to school to. Come to think of it, I'm at the high school most days doing volunteer work anyway.... And I already have enough "Naked Ladies running thru my flower beds.... LOL

I never knew those were called Naked Ladies - I've always called them Surprise Lilies and I love them! I have some about the same color as yours, Wanda - are yours a different color, Melissa? I just dug up a few dozen purple Japanese Iris - don't know how they'd do in the mail to you, tho...

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

Nope, those look like mine.

Fremont, CA(Zone 9a)

I think the Surprise lily is Lycoris squamigera (and is also called naked lady). I believe this naked lady is Amarylis belladonna which creates bulbs as much as 4-6" across.

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

I just ordered some Belladonna lilies two weeks ago. Just as well, as I have nothing to tempt you with. =)

I hope mine bloom next year. (Naked Ladies in my Mary Garden! O! the scandal ...)

I went over and over the two entries in the database and really can't tell the difference!! The Belladonna LOOKS like it has more blooms, but really doesn't, there are just alot more plants. Anyhoo, Melissa, do you have anything besides those to trade if you REALLY want the iris's bad?? :) (Just teasing, if you'll send me postage and some advice on the best way to package them, I'd be glad to send you some - freshly dug!)

Fremont, CA(Zone 9a)

I think one difference is the length of the stalk. Lycoris is shorter and has a smaller bulb. Lycoris is also a little more delicate flower than belladonna. In my neck of the country belladona is planted at surface level. Everything seems to point at lycoris being planted much deeper.

Blue Springs, MO(Zone 5b)

I betcha I planted mine too deep, but they probly ARE lycoris cuz the bulbs were fairly small - I separated them a couple years ago and the ones in the place where I first had them have VERY short stems...they've probly "sunk"!! Guess I'll dig 'em up again and plant them almost to the surface and see what happens!! Thanks for all the info, George!! "Velly Intevesting!!" :)

I used to live in northern calif and i used naked ladies to decorate for an out door wedding. I raided every roadside that I could find them on. They just grew wild. I would love to trade for a cutting of an African Mask plant. I just transplanted it and I have a cutting to ship. They are a beautiful house plant.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

melissa, i have a white siberian iris "snowcrest". i also have "dewful'. the others i don't know the names, since the tags washed out before i could get to them. they are all from poppysue's co-op. i have the names of the ones i ordered, so that you could easily identify them when they bloom if you would like one or two that are not named. i don't have much luck with them blooming for me. i don't seem to have the conditions that they like. they did bloom this spring, some of them, but we had the wettest spring we have had in a long time. so let me know if any of these appeal to you. if not we'll keep trying. :) debi z i've always wanted these bulbs.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I think the easiest way to tell the difference is probably the hardiness. They Lycoris are easily hardy down to 5.

If anyone who contacted me about these is still interested, please resend. My computer had a trojan in it, and I lost all the emails. I still have a couple of trades available. I'm *always* looking for daylilies I don't have!

I've become addicted!

Did you say daylilies. How about Strawberry candy? I have several that I'll post a link to for you tosee being the email is down. I have others LMK. I have about 10-12 of the surprise lily but would trade to get some for other Dave members.
Here's a lnk to what we call nakid ladies in the south. Also where I posted a photo of my surprise lily.

Here's the photo of the daylilies that I have. This is Strawbery Candy. It looks orange in the photo but is strawberry in reality.

Here's the one from Poppysue and that is what I call it. Don't know it's rightful name.

I just found this thread again. Hopefully I'll be able to share again this fall, these things really like my dirt I guess, they multiply really well for me.

Georgiaredclay, I didn't mean to ignore you, thank you for your offer to share your daylilies, that was very kind of you to offer for someone else. :-)

melissa, i tried to get a trade going with you on this last year, but alas they were all gone. perhaps you can remember me this fall. i sure would appreciate it. debi z

Garberville, CA(Zone 9a)

I just found two HUGE clumps in our front yard, which I didn't even know were there! They were planted in the middle of our almost 1 acre front lawn, and got mowed over every spring, so they never bloomed in the fall. I can't believe they've survived this long being treated like that. Anyway, I transplanted the poor bulbs to a safe area where they can grow, and bloom, so hopefully I'll have flowers next fall. (I don't think they'll bloom this year... they don't like being moved.) I could probably send some to you, Debi. Just let me know.
