Since Butterflies are so popular this time of year, why not have a Best Butterfly Pic Contest?

I'd say you have to limit your enteries to 4 of your best ones. Pics must be posted here, no hyperlinks.
Deadline is August 20th which is next Wednesday at 3:00pm.
We need a panel of judges, hopefully at least 3 people.
Only THIS years pics allowed.
I'll be a judge since I don't have any butterflies to take pictures of here.......LOL

I think I may just havta enter one or four of mine. What should they be resized to when posting? 800x600?
Mine is 640X480. But that is just mine, don't know exactly which size would be best though???
Good idea Mollybee. Are we talking about butterflies in our yards, or is tropicals from butterfly houses okay?

good question on how to know if it's this years photo. Let's just hope everyone will stay honest. I won't care what size the photo is as I won't have to wait long for it to load. So who else is going to be a judge? Am I the only one?
I'd say only pics taken in your own garden or maybe your friends/family garden. No butterfly houses, because we all know that there are some VERY rare and beautiful butter's there.
How to know if its this years pic??.....well I guess I'll have to trust all ya'll.
It can be butterflies or moths eaither one is fine.

mmmmmmm... did 3 judges make it harder? i would think it would help avoid conflict? man, maybe i should just resign... don't want to complicate the judge part when we want to see butterfly pictures!

Alright I will be a judge if need be, looks like I'm not going to get any pictures of them this year unless I hang out at Lupy's garden where it never rains.
LOL Windy one, it isn't the rain keeping them away. They are still smarting over all the times you superglued them to the flowers last year to get all those amazing pics you took! I think you three will make a wonderful judges panel. But if anyone tops Windy ones butterfly closeup from last year with it's tongue sticking out I will be amazed!

All I wanted was a simple contest as I have seen here many times. Didn't mean to stir up a can of worms over who is judging and who isn't.
Should I just go back and delete my post and forget the contest??

Maybe this is not the time or place to bring this up but wondered if you could give a little advice on cameras. What kind do you use and is there an inexpensive camera that will take decent close-ups of butterflies and moths? Should it be digital? Thanks for any help you can give.

Maybe dave would add a butterfly catagory to the other contests? That way everyone could judge ... like he set up the other contests. I bet he'd do it ... If we ask him real nice. If the catagory was expanded to butterflies & hummers ... or butterflies & bugs... I bet ther would be a lot more entries.
Oh yes I like that idea Poppy Sue.....somebody ask Dave...bet he would do it to.....Butterflies,Hummers and Bugs and give us at least a week to get our entries in... :O)
I like the idea too of a "BHB" category. I wish my schedule with college classes liked it so I could have more time to foto B's, H's and B's! ;-(
well this just saddens me. Mollybee was so excited about having this contest and now everyone is pooping out because of something else. It's not right to her. I'm still with you Molly, if that makes any difference
Just thought there may be more ideas and there were....but I'm sure folks are still with you Mollybee...dont want to rain on anyones parade....so if you still want to have the Best Butterfly contest heck go for it.....Since I don't have any butterflies to shoot...and if you still need a judge I would do it....LMK what yall decide.....You know we could do best Hummer, best bug on seperate contest....Whatch think....
If Mollybee wants to do this and I know she has her heart set on it, lets do it.
Another contest where one doesn't have to use pictures though may be a bit more feasable as people such as Aimee can't participate due to her slow connection and it would take her forever to load all the pictures to look at them :(
Also, there are many who don't have a digital to take pictures or no butterflies.........LOL.........can you believe I don't have any butterflies here this year :(

I think Flowox has a REALLY good point. Molly has her heart set on it (or, at least I do for her) and I want to support her! But, a picture contest is going to be harder to get submissions. Let's think of a non-picture contest so we can get going!!!! I'll be a judge if there are three of us.
What about words people make up that don't really exist? Kind of like the dam-stress I had in the one liner contest when I meant to say "Damsel in Distress"?
This is gonna be a tough one for the judges! Butterflies are beautiful subjects and everyone tries to shoot them...those who succeed fall into two categories...category 1 is "Wow. look at that amazing shot!" And catagory 2 is "hmmmmmm, yep it is a butterfly" Mine are always in catagory 2 but I keep trying for a category 1. Just so you will all appreciate the difference I plan on entering my category 2 shots!
You all are so sweet for thinking of me like this. I guess I did jump the gun before I thought out all the ins and outs of it.
I'm ok with not having the Butterfly contest. I agree we could try something else that doesn't involve pics.
