wow..posted my pretty hoya bloom on the welcome mat and brug area, as an example of decorating to deter, people from stealing photos. :)

Waterford, ON(Zone 6a)

Had to look twice this morning? Half asleep I thought it said 'hostas'. Thanks for requesting this forum!

I thought I had missed a topic. Thanks Crasulady. What are we allowed to include? Maybe dischidia's and epi's....

Celaya, Mexico(Zone 10a)

Well I hope that the soap opera like actions as in the "outside DG" Hoya forums will not happen here.
Thanks Dave for creating the forum and thanks Norma for requesting it.

Valley Village, CA

I hope that there is enough interest. Today I took cutting of Hoya bella variegated variety. The rooted down quickly, I think this must be a dna thing, only certain time of the year they will root down easly, the rest of the time it takes months, until that special time rolls around.
I have been using alcohol 70% not diluted for the mealies and so far it works, with no harm to the plants.
How will people know this forum is here when they are new, or old to the list?

I'm hoping it really catches on. Yes I did request it, I'm hopping to bring a whole group of people over to this new forum. They seem to be very loyal to only one person. This I can understand.

Now what species of Hoya are the rest of you growing at this time, and the faster we can set up a trade system the faster the Hoya forum will grow. Folks be very ethical in trading because if you don't it will kill this forum faster than anything else.

I have plenty of H. 'Fresno Beauty' to share. these are cuts and not rooted yet. Of the H. carnosa complex, and has plenty of silver splashes of silver across the leaves, it grows rapidly, and I waiting for the first flowers.

I have plenaty of H. carnosa variegated form to share, the flower heads are big with many flowers of pink in a cluster. I have H. ordata/ round leaves, the plant is in flower at this time, the flowers look like a H. carnosa

Hoya's are a species of plants that are semi-succulent some, growing in trees, climbers, crawlers, bushes, haveing beacuty wax like flowers and leaves (not all) some are fuzzy however. They grow in India, Thailand, Borneo, Australia (northern) Philippines, on all the islands of the So. Pacific rim. Palawan, Northern India Samoa, Tonga, Papua New Guinea well this will give you an idea of their climate conditions, damp, lots of rain, slightly filtered sun, house plants, don't like temp. lower than 55F but some will tolerate even lower temps, and it won't kill them. Some are cold intolerant. Norma

Norma I'll try and post pics in the morning of what I have. I have the regulars so far. Also, I posted about this new forum on the tropical and cactus forums. I hope people will get interested. I hope the pics will help. I don't have anything blooming.

Valley Village, CA

Lady Swan, thanks for the picture. We sure need more pictures, I'm taking them, but I need to finish up the card first, then get my second lesson on how to put them on a forum. I just want nice clear sharp pictures for you,

I just found it. Does 2 hoyas make a collection? I have one with dark green leaves and one varigated, but have no idea what their names are, no blooms yet as they are small plants. Norma, do you know of a site where I could see pictures and possibly identify mine?

Celaya, Mexico(Zone 10a)

Welcome to the Hoya Forum MaryE.
2 Hoyas are better than none and you'll be hooked once they flower :).
Below find some links which may help with Hoya IDs.
Yours may be H. carnosa (both variegated and non variegated) and/or H. motoskei for the non variegated form.

Thanks Milan, it will take me a while to look through all of those. Many years ago I saw a huge one with flowers and have wanted one ever since. In the spring I will be ready to get more varieties, winter just decended on us and I can't risk something freezing in my mailbox.

Celaya, Mexico(Zone 10a)

MaryE, are you talking about huge plant or flowers?
Had my last delivery of Hoyas in the beginning of October and that was still risky up here.

cape may court house, NJ(Zone 6a)

What a great site.
I never realized hoya's were that beautiful.
I'll be out looking for this plant as soon as Spring comes.

Thank you, the pictures are awesome.

I'll also be looking for more cuttings in the spring. Is it alright to root them in water? That's the way I've always done it.

Celaya, Mexico(Zone 10a)

spacecowgirl,
I would recommend to post your "water rooting" question in a new thread in the Hoya forum. It is a frequently asked question and a new thread in this regard will make it easier for other members finding it when looking/browsing for the answer.

Thanks in advance

I want to post a new topic. Don't know where to go to do this.

I do grow extra HOya for postage, they will be rooted. I now have available H. publicaylx 'Silver Pink' and H. compacta, 'Hindu Rope' now always check my spelling, that I will not be responsible. These are rooted and for new people, please let me know what forum you are on. People on other forums I do not send free plants.

Check at Rainbow Gardens Book Store for book on Dischidia and Hoya
We can include Dischidia, Jasmine family there a few other species that are related to the Hoya ( fifth cousins) Lipstick family Asclepiadaceae. Enjoy the forum, Norma

I took pictures this morning, and it will take me a little while to upload them for you, but I have been having lessons and will do so. It's up to us to make this an interesting forum. There is no leader here, no boss, no queen, just students.
We are all learning, and I hope in the future will be all trading. I just order quite a few from Hawaii. Thank goodness he will take them to the Agr. department before shipping. I have ordered from him before. I let you all know how they look when they arrive. These are only cutting and these species will need a lot of humidity. Off to the Huntington they go for rooting in the jungle hot house.
With this heat, and me misting them every morning they are putting on good growth at this time in my own hot house, and I am taking cuttings. Norma

Hi Shazbot,

I have a hoya carnosa http://plantsdatabase.com/go/432/index.html I wil gladly send you a clipping or two. They are pretty easy to root just dunk them in rooting hormone and stick them in the dirt. I am not sure the zones you can grow these outside I have to keep mine inside. Good luck with your new addiction and congrats on stopping your old one.

Flat Rock, NC(Zone 7b)

old_rose, it would be lovely to have some cuttings! Are you looking for anything in particular that we may could trade for?

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

shazbot... you've got mail

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Watch out...collecting a few hoyas can lead to stronger stuff, like collecting more and more and then reading everything you can find about them and getting on forums to learn more and more and then spending money to travel to places to see them....it never stops. Look where mine led me!!!

And I love it!

Flat Rock, NC(Zone 7b)

old_rose, so do you!!

Flat Rock, NC(Zone 7b)

AlohaHoya2000, I do the same thing with my knitting & yarn, my tole-painting & patternbooks, and now, beads & beading. Shoot, what's one more addiction as long as it's a healthy one?!?! :)

hiram, GA(Zone 7b)

If anyone has a few extra cuttings, I'd love one. Lost mine to a freeze last winter, and didn't replace it yet.
