This poor little hummer

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

must have hit the window. I found him in a crack between the boards on the deck, one wing in the air, like he struggled to try and fly out. He is irridescent green on the back, black wings and tail with white tips on the tail feathers, grayish white on the underside of his body. What kind?

Poor little guy, that makes me sad.

Did you help take him out?

Awh......poor thing.... :(

He was already dead when I found him. I felt bad that I hadn't seen him when there would have been a chance to save his life.

I am so sorry to hear that and know how you feel.

Birds are pretty fragile little creatures. I hate to find things lifeless like that. Hope you are feeling ok.

Looks like a female ruby-throated hummingbird. They're about all we have here, though we get an occasional rufous hummingbird. Here's a good shot of a female: http://www.jjcardinal.com/large-rh.htm Is that it?

I think ours are rufous, every hummer I've seen looks like this poor little dead one. That's a fantastic picture of the nest, a real engineering feat for sure.

Montgomery, AL(Zone 8a)

I am almost 100% sure it is not a rubythroat. It is an immature hummer, probably a rufous, but could be several other species.
