Kell, that's one of the stink bugs... it looks like a spined soldier bug. He'd be a good guy. It eats other bugs... especially caterpillers. http://www.ent.iastate.edu/imagegal/hemiptera/stinkbug/spined_soldier_bug.html

Looks like a good one to me too.

I remember seeing one on my butterfly weed with a monarch cat impaled on his snout. I was horrified! To bad we can't train these bugs to only eat the pests we them to.

I know what you mean. I saw a robber fly with a hummingbird moth impaled. To the fly it was just "dinner".

I better run out and set him free!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Well be careful! I accidentally grapped one once when ripping out some weeds and the thing decided to impale me! LOL I had to rip it out of my finger.

Marshfield, MO(Zone 6a)

I ran across one page that said they were mostly plant feeders, not sure what to believe now!

I have always thought that these were friendly bugs, except maybe to other bugs.

Gee my stink bug does not look like either in that picture! He probably swings both ways.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

lol.........a new 'swinger' bug.........hope his wife don't find out unless she swings both ways too.........ROTFL

Sorry, it's late, I've taken my meds, and I just couldn't resist :)

In my garden they destroy plant fruits and flower buds by sucking on them. Especially Rose buds. You end up with a deformed flower full of bad spots.

I wonder if I can go catch him!
