bulb that will bloom mid May to June

I am looking for a bulb that will bloom mid May to June, I am thinking about the various bulbous irises. Anyone have heard of the English iris, I just saw some them listed in a catalog. Any information these. Oh too I need the blooms to be purple.

Allium, Anemone both of which come in PURPLE!
