Golden Lady X L'Amour
A Pod is Born!
Way to go. Before long, you aren't going to need blooms. Your plants will look like Christmas trees with green ornaments. LOL!
Way to go Kell! Best of luck with them.
I have 5 pods of that same cross going, maybe we'll get something really nice kell.
Great Picture, I was wondering what to look for, I have never had blooms on my brugs until this year and was hoping to get seeds. I'll have to check and see if I have any. Thanks, Cathy
That sounds like a great cross!!!!
You better go and feed Golden Lady some prenatal vitamins! I've never seen so many pods.
Kell!!! I just read where the Calif dept of USDA says that its illegal to have seeds of this cross..................sooooo...I guess so you won't have to go to jail you will have to mail ALL of them to me! :-)
LOL
Kell, I think Kyle is after your plants for some reason! Maybe you should send them to me for safekeeping.
Kyle and Susie,
You two are a hoot!
there will be WAY too many seeds in those pods for Kell to grow in her car!!!!!!
That is a really, really good cross, thinking you might need some help taking care of all these "kids". WTG!
WOW, what a beautiful sight Kell. . all those pods. It won't bee too long and you will be planting seeds again!!
Some people have all the climate, I mean luck, I mean success. LOL Cool Kell!!
Kell, I have some GL pods too, some with L'Amour some with some other new ones I got earlier this year(I couldn't resist pollinating just a few, maybe DH won't notice). Crossing fingers here.
You know with all the seeds we all will have that we all will be sharing!!! This is when we will thank Susie for all her germinating experiments she had lots of us doing. I feel badly that I have been unable to share L'Amour yet but her babies will be all over! Tracey has gotten a high percentage of dark pinks so we know the beautiful lady L'Amour shares her color very well!
I am already have dreams that I have bought land just to grow bruglings on......LOL!
Yesterday I broke a pod off, GL X Rosamond, while hacking back an out of control vine. I was happy to see some of the seeds are getting brown. You pod experts, how much longer do you think they have to go?
I volunteer to help grow some of those GL x L'amour! lol
Kell go ahead and plant those seeds! They will probably come up. I will help you grow those out if you help me with Golden Lady x Jam. Yellow.
Sure Tracey. should I just dry them and put in envelope and send?
Those should come up, especially the brown ones. Just wrap them in newspaper or tissue paper(not plastic, they will mold) and send them to Tracey now(if that's what you're going to do).She should plant them as soon as she receives them. Seeds picked too soon will usually germinate if you plant them immediately but their "shelf life" is not long.
Ok I planted half and will send half to Tracey tomorrow! This way I get to see the results soon! LOL
Heck they way she grows them you'll see'um by Christmas!LOL
CC, you are so right.
Cool maybe a double for Christmas! Well as soon as my pod is ready I will send you some of these. I hope we get a really dark double yellow, that blooms as good Golden Lady.
That is super cool looking!
When should I expect the pods to develop on my Brug?
Tracey, at the rate you grow seedlings, you will probably have blooms at Christmas.
Did you pollinate the bloom Shirley? If you did, and if it took, look at the end of the peduncle as the flower dries up. It will form there immediately as the flower dies. Then it keeps growing for about 4 months I believe. Though different ones can take longer and I had one take just 2 months.
Here is a picture that I copied from Dave's when I first joined. It really helped me with the terms in brugging!
Thanks for the information Kell. I didn't physically pollinate the bloom, but maybe the bees did naturally. I'll keep an eye out for any enlargements after the flower dies naturally.
What a great picture on the parts of a Brug. Wish we could permanently add this information to the forum (or maybe to the F.A.Q forum) to help everyone learn more about them. Since Daturas are "cousins" of Brugs, would this picture apply to them too?
All my pods have been falling off its been so hot here.
That is too sad. Are you saving your pollen to use latter?
