Do you happen to have any seeds or cuttings from this plant?!?!?! I have some "Salvia" seeds I could trade you?!!??!
sassy, I don't have either right now. This plant took a pretty hard winter hit or two but for the future how would I go about making cuttings? Do plants with latex sap do okay as cuttings, do I have to let it harden first??
making cuttings is no problem. You have to cut in the woody part of the branch. To stop the bleeding (latex) put the cutting in warm water or take your lighter and heath the wound, bleeding will stop imadiatly. Wait a couple of days to let dry the wounded plant and then you can put it in a pot. Do not water in the first weeks, wait till you see roots are forming.
Sounds simple enough, thanks! Poor thing, I wish it looked as good now as when I took this picture...
I obtain a plant (very large) from my brother-in-law who last year died of complications with a bone marrow transplant, so this plant is very dear to me. I did successfully transplant it into three, one I gave away has since died. I now have two and have taken a branch off to try to develop a third. Now the two plants seem to be falling more and more towards the floor for no reason that I know. Is this normal. They both bloom. Thanks for any help you can give me. DJ
DJ, so sorry about your loss.
I wish I knew how to help with your plant. I planted mine in the ground when I got it and have had no trouble with it other than a bit of frost damage.
Maybe a local nursery could help??
Good luck with it,
Stacey
Man o man, this plant grows SO SLOWLY! I don't really seem to have managed any growth that I can recall. Maybe a picture from when I bought it. Poor thing it was left all alone on what looked to be a discard shelf off to a corner at KMart...not blaming them of anything. My main effort (or hope) has been to get it to develop strength to stand up without help. It still feels kind of weak when I gently wobble it. I water it when it seems dry, but still regularly. I have little Japanese river rocks covering the soil, and water it from bottom up. Any comments on those details? Greatly appreciated.
And Dave I really like your sight and my fellow plantfolk!
