We have hazelnut trees/shrubs. They always have a load of nuts on them, but they never mature... or they rot without ripening. We've tried picking them early, letting them fall, Drying them a bit... all to no avail.
I have found nothing on them on the web... I looked about a year ago.
Does anyone have any info on... Harvesting & ripening the little filberts?
Thank you.

Fruit and nuts?
southern Ohio, Do you have different varieties of filberts. They do need pollenizing. You should have at least two varieties. I would guess that that is your problem, they aren't getting pollenized, so don't mature. Donna
yes, hazelnuts need 2 different varieties to produce fruit
maybe this url can help http://www.nutofthemonthclub.com/hazelnut.shtml
Yes, thank you, I have 2 varieties. Barcelona (M) & Royal(F). BOth are Starks' varieties. I should write them.
They are producing the nutshell with a small kernal in it. so I think they are pollinating each other.
i do appreciate it. I'll let you know if I get an answer from Stark's.
