Gorgeous -

err, how many people add to their "want list" as they scroll through different postings. *scribble scribble*

I did pick up some Australia last year, Lucifer, Pink Beauty, a couple of tall named yellow ones (just not recalling the names) and this one is definitely charming. And I just know where I can squeeze a clump in my back garden.

Thank you for the lovely photo. Ahaa - now time to go a huntin'!

How do cannas grow for you in colder climates? Do you start them indoors in pots? Do you keep them in pots or plant outdoors? (I see Brugie has a greenhouse!) Please advise! I found some great ones to order, but I'd like some advice from a fellow 5 zoners about how well they grow "up north!"

In all the years I have gardened, only got my first cannas last year, it was so hot & dry, wasn't going to grow them again. Well, this year I planted tubers, and had started seeds. We have had lots of rain and warm, they have large blooms, really pretty. I plan to dig them and store in peat moss, in basement. Haven't figured out how I am going to keep them separated and named, will probably wrap in newspaper. I also start seeds inside in the winter, keep some canna growing(favorites)under florescent lights. Hope this helps. They are worth the digging, storing and replanting outside in the spring.

Kyle, Princess Di is a favorite of mine. I have 4 plants. It is a beauty.

I started seeds in my greenhouse and most of the cannas that I held over from last year, that being three or four varieties. I bought 36 cannas tubers from Horn Canna Farms and they came this spring about two weeks or so before planting time outside, so I just waited and stuck them in the ground. They bloomed at almost exactly the same time as those I started in the greenhouse that were already six or eight inches tall when I put them in the ground. All of mine are the short varieties. Lots of water and fertilizer, tho mine don't get a lot, will make them grow like crazy.

Don't you just love Horn Canna farm! I'll have to add this one to my spring purchase next season. Great picture Kyle

How early in the spring do I need to plant cannas indoors, to have them bloom for as long of the summer as possible in zone 5?

I see Horn Canna Farm ships starting in mid-Feb.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

A new Yorker start them indoors a month before the last frost.....cannas want warm soil when planted out for the summer too.Plant out too early and they will just sit and do nothing.

thanks everyone!
