Hi there Hollyburgh!! Welcome to Dave's! It's nice to see someone else from Western PA. You have a very nice pond. I too am jealous of the watercourse. Not to mention the lotus. I tried one this past spring to no avail. May I ask where you got the lotus? Did you purchase it locally or online?

"T" :)

Thanks for the kind words. Our pond is 2,400 gal. My husbasnd and 2 of our 3 daughters built it over a Memorial day weekend 5 years ago. It is about 30 inches deep in the middle, and it has a plant shelf aroung the edges. 8 tons of rock were delivered to our front yard, and the girls and I raked the stones out to the curb washed them and then put them in a wheelborrow and took them to the back yard. Whew!! We used the kind of system with the skimmer and waterfall premade. My hubby did the design work and digging. We also have lights under the water. It truly is beautiful. The neighbors bring in friends to see it. Makes for gorgeous background for pictures. We have Koi, commets, and 2 pleco, and some frogs. Last winter we lost most of our really big fish. Too cold for too long. This winter we are going to set up a pond in the basement gameroom and bring in the fish. Hope the frogs will fend for themself. They usually do. Hubby wishes he had made the pond about 4 feet in the middle. We purchaced the lotus at lilypons 5 years ago. This year I repotted it and gave away 4 runners form it. All 4 have survived and one is blooming. My husband gets in the pond every week and fertilizes the lilies and lotus. He really enjoys the pond. I am the landscaper in the family. We make a good team. I dream up the stuff and he makes my dreams come true. This is a picture of my hubby putting the penny in my daughters shoe on her wedding day. She is sitting on the bench by the pond. We also built a fountain will post it next.

This the fountain we made a few years ago. Hubby dug a hole in the ground put the liner in and then a cinder block. The cinder block holds the pump. We went to a rock quarry and picked up some pretty flat stones. He then used a special drill hammer I think it is called, and drilled a hole in the middle of each stone. We put in the long rubber tube and then ran it through the holes in the stones one by one. This year I found a pair of Hands (palm up) with a little bird perched on the edge of the hand. Frank(the afore mentioned Hubby) drilled a hole in the hands and now they top off the fountain. The base of the hands says By HIs Hands We Are All Fed. The birds and chipmonks drink from it. I found the hands at a store called Kirklands for $9.

How beautiful everything is and what a lovely setting for a wedding picture. You must be very proud for not only is your water garden wonderful, your daughter is lovely as well....I bet she remembers how much work it took to get all those rocks washed, sorted and hauled to the backyard!
Thanks for sharing, we want to see more!
btw, welcome to Dave's Garden! I came to this forum because I read what you have in the Welcome Mat forum. You will not be sorry you joined. There is always something going on and I haven't spent so much time for so little money in a long time! :)
I just joined in July and though I have never participated in anything like this before, I am so glad I did! I am learning all kinds of new things from gardening to abreviations like "btw" and DH etc. So much fun, so many good people! Enjoy.
