Panama, NY(Zone 5a)

Boy, have I had a day. My DD Julia and DGD Jess went to Erie with me. The Doc gave me an im shot of cortizone and said if the knee doesn't ease up with that and an increase in one of my meds, to get an xray and come back for a site injection of cortizone.

Business out of the way, we went shopping! Now I realize that complaining about a knee and then shopping sounds a little silly, but it actually feels better when I walk a bit, so we just took it easy, went to 3 stores and had lunch and ice cream. Jul bought a bunch of clothes for school, I got a dress and a couple of shirts and two pair of shoes. Jessie just had a good time generally - she's a good shopper - and got a neat suede headband with embroidery on it (shades of my hippy youth!)for being such a peach.

Stan and Jess's big brother Tom got the rest of the parts for the hubs on the "new" old truck and Stan has it back in running order. I'm still not sure why 2 people need 3 vehicles, but I guess the "new" old truck is a back up for the "old" old truck.

I am loving the new Trailblazer. It is just nice to drive, handles traffic well, parks easily and will haul home a whole lot of shopping. Jess likes it because she can control the ac in the back seat and the shoulder strap has a little attachement so it doesn't strangle her. Juia liked it because I was driving.

The cow from the other night is fine, she may have gotten bumped around when we were transporting her home. It happens sometimes. The real problem is not necessarily that it was a dead calf, but that it was another bull. Out of the last 23 calves, 3 have been heifers. That's going to make it tough to keep the herd numbers up in a couple of years.

We are watching another cow closely, Nut will be 14 at the end of August and she was due yesterday. Her last year's numbers were impressive for a 13 year old cow - 26,000 + pounds of milk and a fairly high fat and protein content. She is a stubborn old girl, about near killed Stan once when she was a heifer, but they worked out their differences and as long as we let her stand where she wants to and don't change any of her routines things go along fine.

I think I'll go rest until bedtime!
