hi annaz, no trickery here...this is what you get when you get rain every day since the end of May (we've only had 4 days with no rain) and temps in the upper 90's with a heat idex of 110! My tropicals are really outdoing it this year!
'Chele, the stuff all around it are all different kinds of gingers.
The leaves measure 4'by 3&1/2 feet
Mitjo, what a nice thing to say to an old broad..hehe. Thank you.
I am SO living in the wrong climate! LOL
Great photos. Mine have big leaves, but not that big. Send some of your rain this way. We just can't get it at all. So dry the grass breaks under foot.

Ask lisa if she likes all the bugs that come along with the rain and heat. lol It's been interesting outside this year hasn't it lisa? :)
Bugs???!!! Nah, not here, pestilence comes to mind, but not bugs.....LOL angie..it has been a MISERABLE summer. The bugs are toxic size and the heat has been unreal. I told my dh that I don't know if it is because I am getting old and getting to be a wimp, but my oh my 'tis hot here, I sure feel the heat this year. You really can't appreciate the word "humidity" till you come down here, it almost robs your breath when you walk outside in the a.m.

I love the composition of the first pic..Great plant huh? I love em..
Kyle, I think of you on a daily basis...the Nancy's Revenge you sent last year is just lovely. I admire it so much and every time I do, I thank you from a far.. :0) It brings a smile to my face and I am so quick to show it off to friends, who in turn what it. So far, I have shared 5 babies from it!
Lisa, what a great ele ear! Looks really good. All your plants in the picture look great!
...."the better to hear you with, my dear!"
Love those humongous EARS!
Lisa, beautiful plants. I also like all the gingers you have---
I remember seeing those (next to the philodendron, if memory serves me) when we stopped by there last January. (Seeing these kinds of plants thriving outdoors in January is quite an experience, by the way!)
Here's an upright that rootdoctor sent me this past spring. The tuber was enormous - at least 4 years worth of growth on it. It's about 5 feet tall - we really love these elephant ears!
Dave
Sure does look like the trip south did it some good!!!!!I sure didn't think it would be so big!It must like Tex.
I like that one. I think I have that variety hidden somewhere here in this jungle.
Dave, I too was so surprised at the kinds of plants blooming in LA when we went there in Dec. Even vinca and impatiens still blooming.
of course they were still blooming , we hadn't had a freeze yet..grin.
yep, dave, thats the one.

What is the name of this plant, it's huge! Love to get one of them. Cathy
So, do you hide from the water restriction people? Or do you just go straight to bribery? lol
Lets just say I have passed a few plants around,LOL!
Whew !! Nice! I better start watering mine more! :) Do you use any fertilizer?
Every month,I have the front set up with a soaker hose, just MG.sure wish I had your zone!
I have one of mine sitting in a drip saucer full of water and it is doing much better. Have been hitting it with fertilizer once a week. That is some leaf Bob. Hope one of mine will some day get that size. How are you going to hold this one over this winter?
Greenhouse.
Hey Root, impressive leaf (fer a yankee..heheh..hmmm..looks like I better give my plant a link of boudin to give it some 'umphf') ;0)
Mornin girl,How you doin?Bet that possum would like a link!
mornin' root, doing fine here, trying to tie up some loose ends, heading out to the sub-tropics for a few days (going to Florida--YAY)I need to get off this thing..lol..I have a ton of work to do...
Ouch - mine are doing that, too. We've had some serious heat and sun the past couple weeks and I've lost several leaves in this same manner (my other normal elephant ears are even worsely affected. You should see my brugs!! Poor guys...)
